Isn't a sponge more absorbent?

i can think of a few reasons... towels are bigger and more flexible and can get into bendy places more easily. also, sponges can harbor bacteria, especially if they don't dry thoroughly. and they tend to shred in the washing machine.

Hmm.. I understand the point about shredding in washing machines..

But, why not make it long like a towel and quite thin, like a piece of foam or something..?

Think about how a sponge works. what happens when you saturate a sponge and the squeeze it? The act of drying requires vigerous movement of the towel, does the towel get saturated? Even when soaked you will still ge dry with a towel, would you with a sponge?

Would you not with a sponge?

Well, isn't it easy to just squeeze a sponge? And then dry yourself again?

as you dry yourself with a sponge you are constantly squeezing with varying degrees of "hardness" thus you are wetting yourself again. when you next have a bath (sunday !) try running the sponge over yourself. does it absorb all / enough water to dry you?
