are medical leeches used more than once?

if a leech is used on a patient, is the leech disposed of. or can it be reused?

OOOh that is an icky thought, could that not spread disease, or do they have some way of rendering contagious disease incapable of spreading to others through reintroduction to another patient?
Brings to mind mosquitoes and them re-entering another host!
