Why Does Chewing Gum Go Chalky In MY Car ?
« on: 18/07/2007 20:26:02 »
Dearest Huggable luffable Peeps Of Higher IQs Than Me !

As any respectable chewing gum chewer knows...Chewing Gum comes from the Chewing Gum Tree (Spearminttreeus FreshBreathilitus: Lat)

What me wants to know..is why does chewing gum become almost chalky in texture when left in my car for a few days ?.....it still tastes fine and chews well !!.....and these are chewing gums which are sealed in their own wrapper and also the packet is sealed in a plastic wrapper too !!

Chew me the way to gum enlightenmnet !

Hugs the forum

I believe it is because the car is closed up and the heat does something like making the gum dryer etc. You know how hot it can get in a car when the windows are up even on a warm overcast day! And perhaps the heater or blowers drying things up also!! Chew again and moisture is added and the gum is fine! Gum trees are cool! A sweet gum tree's sap is really good to chew when the tree is nicked and allowed to drain. Some people call the tree a liquid amber tree.My mother in law has one and grew up chewing the sap from the tree!

THANK YOU.

You must be right Karen Mam...even though the gum is well sealed it must still lose some moisture !!...I just thought it might be something else !

neil, was the gum sugar free? I believe sugar free contains lots of calcium, could this be why it tasted chalky to you?

Yes, yes Paul....it eeez sugar free gum !!...I am sure this must be an important part of it...YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

It's not that it tasted chalky it was the actual texture became calcified !....so I expect that the sugar free and moisture loss aspects must be the contributing factors !

THANK EWE PAUL
