somewhere I have books on making stained glass my mom was into it with the leading and staining.. I never paid any attention to it!

Stained glass is very interesting.  Although they did not know it - this is the earliest time where people were actually using nanotechnology - right back in the 15th century and even earlier.  Many of the colours in the glass e.g. blues, reds, purples, result as a function of the size of the material.

i.e. nanoscale materials that semi-conduct between 1-7 nm give different colours.  These materials are called quantum dots.

They use coloured glass and then put together with leaden frames for the windows.
