Why do Americans insist on calling him that. I've got a program on TV and the guy talking is really annoying me with Aydolf Hitler this & Aydolf Hitler that.  [:(!]

I don't think I've ever said Aydolf Hitler.  How do you say it?

Maybe I was a tad hasty in tarring all Americans with the same brush; but I have heard a lot pronounce it Aydolf.

We pronounce it correctly - Ad-olf

That's how I pronounce it too, but honestly I hardly ever say Adolf.  I generally only say "Hitler".

It is not merely 'Aydolf', but some accents would pronounce all 'A's as a long 'aye' rather than the short, open, 'ah' that the normal Brit would pronounce.

Most English mostly just refer to him as 'Hitler' (they probably do not want to sound like they are on first name terms with him), but there are occasions where the full name is used (after all, he did have a sister, and other family; so one sometimes need to distinguish which Hitler one is talking about).

Hope nothing seriously wrong to get you in a bad mood.

Don't worry, at 4,000 odd miles distance, I scarcely noticed it (now, if I had been standing next to you, I might well have been cringing, but over here, one could not tell).

There is also the fact that media generally refer to people by their surnames: Brown, Blair, Bush, Thatcher, Hitler.

I think you're a bit unfair putting Blair & Brown in the same sentence as Hitler. Then again...
