try stopping the bottom crank shaft when turning the gears

I'm not sure what your point is  ???

If the cog wheels were welded together the crank shaft couldn't move.

(B) will force the rod between (A) and (B) to act as a leaver forcing (B) down and (A) up the gears will equalize this motion leaving the gears to move easy with a large load on the crank shaft.
Standed crank shaft the gears move up then down then up (etc).
The gears, wheels and crank shaft are conneted to the frame of the device.

But A & B must move up & down together. If A was going up & B going down, the cog wheels would have to be rotating the same way, which is plainly not possible in that configuration.

I'm still not sure what the device is supposed to achieve.
