Top Gear are either lost, or are lying!

They appear not to know either where the North Pole is or how a GPS system works....

I watched last night the "Race to the North Pole" in which Clarkson and May were in a Toyota something and Hammond was in a dog sled. They were perporting to be racing to the North Pole. Now, I have no idea when this was televised or any subsequent media, so what I say might be rather out of date. But.....

At the end of the show, the screen of their state-of-the-art GPS is shown, thus:

Does anything strike you odd about this? Well, it did me, and so this morning I looked up this position on Google Earth, and guess what?

It's not so clear, but if you look closely in the centre of the frame you'll see the co-ordinates "W 104° N 78°"
Before I draw my own conclusions, I'd be interested in what any of you think.....

I see the spot you are speaking of but it looks as if it is on a small island! Where is That Stuart?

Magnetic north pole.

By the way, have you seen that Canada laying claim to the north pole in response to Russia doing the same a couple of weeks ago?

Magnetic north pole.

Oh, ok. But the commentary is at best misleading. The never, ever mention "magnetic", and there is a part where they say that they are now the most northern people in the world. Also, Clarkson discusses the ice in this latitude in the context of global warming, saying that clearly there is no effect.

By the way, have you seen that Canada laying claim to the north pole in response to Russia doing the same a couple of weeks ago?

My proposal is in the post....

I just checked the difference between teir position and the MNP, and they were still some 320 miles short.....Still an amazing thing to do, but I don't think that it was particularly well written.

320 miles short? That's nearly as short as Hammond!

Thanks Doc and Stuart! Is this a show or some kind of survival game, reality thing?

It's a motoring show. Actually, to call it just a motoring show doesn't do it justice. The 3 presenters are brilliantly entertaining & witty, and some of the stuff they get up to beggars belief - using a jet-engine-powered drag car to blast a car, playing conkers with caravans. You have to see it to appreciate it.

Have a look at these vids on their website http://www.topgear.com//content/timetoburn/sections/videos/

I agree - it is one of the best shows ever - which is why I was disappointed with the above.....anyhoo.....

Is it officially over? I heard more than just rumours that there was to be no future series. And they've had KST on now so they've reached their peak - where would they go from there?

I worry about you sometimes, I really do.

Is that perhaps the operating theatre in which the sexchange was done?
