Yep..it's cool  eh ?...cos this bloke nuclear physicist Professor Jim Al-Khalili  says so in his amazing documentary called ATOM http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries/features/atom.shtml

Fascinating stuff !!

There are 6 x 1023 molecules of water in about 18cc of water.

Wine glasses apparently have a capacity between 120 to 410cc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_glass#ISO_Wine_tasting_glass), and thus between 40 x 1023 and 137 x 1023 molecules of water.

Each molecule of water contains 3 atoms (two hydrogen, and one oxygen), so a wine glass contains between 120 and 410 x 1023 atoms.

The world oceans contain about 1,300 million km3 of water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_(molecule)#Water_on_Earth).  There are 1012 cc in 1km3; thus in 1,300 million km3 there are 1.3 x 1021 cc, which amounts to about 6 x 1018 wine glasses, which is about 2 million times smaller than the number of atoms in a wine glass.

What about moles?

A mole of any substance is the molecular weight of that substance in grams. Water has a molecular weight of 18.0 (16.0 for the oxygen and 1.0 for each hydrogen), so the mole-to-gram relation for water is 1 mole water = 18 g water.

100 grams of Water, equals 5.56 mole water.

Moles Don't live in water!

...apparently, he (Professor Jim Al-Khalili) has also counted the number of atoms in the Universe and it's 1 followed by seventy zeros....which is nice !!

Did you know there are fewer atoms in a jigger of scotch than there are dead bottles of scotch in Neil's or Dr. Beaver's gardens?

Not true in my case as I don't drink scotch. Now, if you'd said brandy or tequila...  ;D

I didn't know but given that the volcanoes don't really care about the sea and that 70% of the earth's surface is covered by water...
