WTF was that??

something really weird happened yesterday. before i explain, take note:
1-i'm not asthmatic
2-the room was not stuffy, it was very well ventilated
3-i was slouched in the chair, with my dog on my lap [just in case its relevant]
so next thing i coughed: once, twice, then a little coughing fit. that stopped and i went to catch my breath, and i realised...i couldn't breathe. it was like my chest just wouldn't expand, i couldn't move my ribcage enough to draw a breath. i started choking for a while, until i managed to just stop. i stopped trying to breathe and refused to let myself cough, and after a few moments i could take my breath. [xx(]
but today the muscles around my ribs feel really sore and strained. have i damaged them?
what happened?

are you alergic to dog hairs? Could the dog have constricted your chest?

Did the dog have any flea meds or drops on his back and did you put your hands to your mouth after the initial cough after petting your dogs back.. Did you apply those recently then pet that area and get some in your mouth?.. That might could be a problem but I am no expert!
