that reminds me of a south park episode, where the americans were in a race with the chinese (i think) to build a ladder to heaven.

There does seem to be quite a few references to it out there (including wiki)....how long would it take to escalate get from top to bottom ?

That thing is huge, but what about safety as was mentioned earthquakes would have to be weighed and if  something ever happened the loss to life would be crazy.. I think about 9-11 and how many people were in one place and lost their lives can you imagine the hysteria and loss of life if something ever happened a plane an earthquake whatever.. It looks really cool, but I wonder how safe. I know they have some great architect so I know they have been weighing all of this stuff very carefully!

I doubt they're going to make it.. 13,000 feet is.. almost half the size of mount everest.. And 1 million people to live on it? That's insane...

How long to build it? Probably take longer than my lifetime.. And that's still another 70 years-ish!!

And the eathquakes in Japan.. Wow.. If that thing collapses... LOL!

The fastest elevator we have goes 16.83M/s, and is in the Taipei 101, in Taiwan.

13,000ft or 3962.4m, that would take the present, fasted elevator about 4 minutes from bottom to top. (maths check, someone)

WOW that is a lot faster then I was imagining.. LOL Don't ask me to check your math... I hate math..:) Surely you must mean  another_someone...George....! LOL

I had thoughts of hour long trips or better !!! LOL..
