Eggs are great...scrambled, boiled, sunny side up, poached, smashed on wifeys head !!..LOL
The only eggs I have eaten are Chicky eggs (and Easter Eggs)....(and quail eggs but these were cold and hard boiled and I can't remember)...but do eggs from other birds like, duckies, goosies, Ostriches etc...all share the same kind of flavour.?...what about turtle eggs, crocky eggs etc...anybody tasted them ?
Your eggsellent comments will be all white by me..no yolk !!...*groan*

I have had duck eggs and think they are ok, but they seem richer then chicken eggs.. My parents used to collect them nd eat them also. I haven't had one in years but I do not eat eggs hardly ever these days!
-
Reptile eggs have leathery skins rather than hard shells (reptiles don't have beaks, so they could not break out of a hard shell, but they have teeth and claws with which to cut their and tear their way out of a leathery shell.
In any case, I cannot think of a reptile whole eggs might legally be eaten (most are endangered species). Maybe some amphibian eggs (such as frogs eggs); and ofcourse fish eggs are regularly eaten (cod roe if you are a cheapskate, or caviar if you can afford it). Possibly somebody eats insects eggs, but they would not exactly be filling.

Thanks George...i left out roe cos it's well...a slightly different thing altogether ...(though I know technically they are eggs etc etc...but you know what i mean yes ?)
There may be a member who has survived on a desert island an feasted on turtle eggs ?...I think the chances are good !! [::)]

Hmm.. I've seen on tv, where people ate ostrich eggs raw.. They are massive! About half the size of an adult's head! They just drank it with a straw.. They said it was yucky! LOL

Ofcourse they are different - but why would you assume that crocodile eggs were more like chicken eggs than fish eggs (size apart - they have little to do with either, except insofar as all eggs perform a similar function)?

Lumpfish roe makes a passable impersonation of caviar & it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Not all eggs, not even all chicken eggs, have a white shell.
I suspect that all eggs, even fish eggs, have an albumen and yolk, but on a smaller scale, and you simply did not have the right tools to separate them.

When me dad used to keep chickens the taste and colour of the egg yolk seemed to depend on what the chicken had eaten and I think free range eggs have a better taste than battery farmed ones.
Now, my snake has taken to her nesting box and should be due to lay her eggs this weekend. This a photo of one of her clutches from last year and you can see the cuts made in the leathery shells.

As you say, when you check the link, there is quite a bit of discussion as to whether the sale of the eggs is indeed legal.
If was clearly taken in low light, but it could also be that there was a short depth of field, and some parts of the photo are out of focus, as well as slightly shaken.

I heard that eating raw eggs can give you salmonella. Is that true? Anyway, what's that? And how?
-
In the hungry forties we used to eat the turkey eggs from the incubator if they showed no signs of hatching after 7 days I would not mind eating worms if they were cooked or dried but not raw (the diet of Worms is well known !)
-

Yes, this is a risk.
Salmonella is endemic in farmed chickens, and is often present on the outside of eggs, and also in raw chicken meat.
- An attempt is made to wash any salmonella off when processing eggs or chicken carcasses, but some small residual is inevitable
- That's why it is wise to:
- Not eat cracked or broken eggs
- Put eggs and chicken in the fridge when you get them home, until you are ready to consume them
- Don't leave it very long before you cook them
- Do cook them, rather than eat them raw

What about half-fried eggs? I like cooking and eating them. It's basically just a sunny side-up with raw yolk, so only the egg white part is fried. Does this also carry a risk of salmonella?
