They have no need to do anything else as we feed them ,also i think cats are nocturnal.

But even wild cats spend about 35 hours per day asleep

I think cats are the dole wallers of the animal kingdon, either that or this is just their nature. they may also sleep for long periods because they are happy, contented and in a warm comfy, friendly enviroment.
does sleep also affect life span? Cats sleep for very long periods, up to 35 hours per day, as the Doc says and live relatively short lives. Humans on the other hand have a general 8 hours a day sleep and live to an average of (around) 80 years.
Sleep longer, live shorter lives...does that equate?

Cats spend so much of their time asleep because they can.
