Minimizing cell phone radiation when listening to podcasts?
« on: 23/08/2019 10:21:17 »
Al asks...

To minimize radiation, is it better to use a Wireless Bluetooth transmission or Hard Wire transmission from my cell phone to my receiving headset?

What do you think?

The other side of it is the download:
- If you are streaming a podcast live from the source over the cellular network, you will be exposing yourself to radiation from the phone in your pocket
- If you are concerned about RFI, it is better to download the podcast at home, putting your phone on the desk next to the WiFi hotspot, while you are away making breakfast...

For reference, in order of decreasing radiation exposure:
- Cellular Mobile: Range up to 1km or so
- WiFi: Range up to 30m
- Bluetooth: Range up to 10m (Class 2)
- Wired earbuds: Range up to 1m

However, as noted in another discussion thread, non-ionising radiation from Bluetooth, WiFi and Cellular Mobile is at such a low level that "blind" testing has consistently shown no biological impact.
- You will have more impact from the warmth of the mobile phone while it is turned on in your pocket than you will from any electromagnetic radiation from it while it is in your pocket (or any mobile base stations you walk past).
