After I updated to Windows 10, my HP laptop sound only plays in mono. Is there a setting I can adjust or is it more complicated?

Maybe there is a problem with the drivers?

Bit strange that it is only one channel; has it reverted to mono but through both speakers, or is sound only being produced on one speaker consistently.
Before condemning Windows, I would do the obvious and check that the leads are all pushed in and that the settings have not inadvertently been set to mono or one channel only.
If this all looks fine, it probably is a driver issue as alluded to above; there are some incompatibilities between software and hardware and between different bits of software. I don't know why, but occasionally a bug causes the Dante virtual soundcard (which is very good, professional software) I am running on a Win10 machine starts to generate artefacts. Only a machine restart cures it.
I would try reinstalling the sound drivers; or at least disable them. Do a hard reboot (power off), and then re-enable. Sometimes this can reconfigure the boot sequence for different devices and makes them play nicely together in future.
