Can anyone share a reference on how chromosomes fuse or split?See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robertsonian_translocation
Is there record of fertile hybrid from parents with different number of chromosomes? The most common case is Down Syndrome, where there is an extra chromosome. Males tend to be infertile, while females have reduced fertility.
Is it possible to measure the speed of darkness?Darkness is the absence of light.
Darkness and light are scientific concepts?Yes, they appear in science and technology - but we usually try to measure them in terms of spectrum and intensity.
Or literary concepts? They have certainly been used metaphorically in literature and religion (as well as interior decorating).
you might consider applying to join the Catholic clergyI was under the impression that this thread was based on some ethical concerns about poor people in the world.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results
If we confiscated the assets of the 1% (leaving them enough to be comfortable) and shared it fairly with all, everyone on Earth would immediately become twice as rich as they are now. Would you like to be twice as rich? Yea, me too....It is inconceivable to me that someone in one of the richest and most privileged nations in the world could somehow think that they would be twice as well off if money were equally shared around the world.
It's possible some of us will need to take a math class or reality check before we can take this much farther.
Ok, so some of us are determined to argue for the status quo. Fair enough.I'm not happy with the status quo.
you brain dead suckers!Even if you are now too poor to go on a Caribbean cruise, use your retirement time to build up people instead of trying to tear them down.
collecting microwaves/ radiowaves for electric current is relatively easy using a length of wire and a diodeWith our current technology, the diode is a weak link.
The total amount of energy from outside the solar system ever received by all the radio telescopes on the planet Earth is less than the energy of a single snowflake striking the ground. That was a long time ago, and was probably an exaggeration at the time, but you get the general idea.
I can make an infinite number of true statements......I do not claim that I can make an infinite number of statements that are particularly novel or profound.
Let's make a bid for clarity: Is infinity a number? What is "an infinite number of" anything?I would say that "infinity is not a specific number; it is larger than any specific number.".
Do we want a tiny number of people to own most of humanity's wealth? To some extent, that comes back to government policy, and public sentiment.
Should ten percent of us own close to everything, while the other 90% of us squabble over what's left? Most of the US population is in the 10%. Most of Mexico is in the 90%.
Does this make any sense? Is it fair, is it just, is it sustainable?Have you even visited a "third world" country, and spent your tourist dollars there?
A common example is the set of integers. The set has a beginning but is 'open ended/without limit/unbounded', but NOT infinite.
Frustratingly, scientists/mathematicians who may agree with that tend, later, to argue as though they didnít agree.Well, I don't agree with it - sorry to frustrate you, Bill!
Another instance of the meaningless term is found in the definition of a limit, such as:Let's take a simple counter-example:
the limit of (some sequence of n terms), as n approaches infinity, = u. By definition the sequence can never equal the limit u, because if it did, the statement would be false!
Is there evidence that this (unobservable, >c galaxies) is happening?Cosmologists have tried various methods, and come up with wildly different answers.
