I am interested and looking into the origin of Himalayan pink salt. I have a bottle. I was ponder  the idea that when India collided with Asia, that it trapped water and it became rock salt. Am I wrong?

Origin: Pakistan

The geology section on Wikipedia says that it precipitated in a subsidence zone, rather than a collision zone.
- But it was lifted up for us to see by the later collision which formed the Himalayas.

what happend to this thread i'm also interested we've been using it since i was a child my mum bought a Salt lamp because i'm asthmatic  and i'm still using a Himalayan Rock Salts lamp in my room

yes Himalyan Rock Salts is pink due to high content of iron compare to the other salts but completely safe for human consumption

The delicate pink shade suggests that the iron oxide concentration is very low.
- If you eat a gram of it (on top of your normal diet with a typically excessive Western salt intake), the Sodium Chloride will do much more damage to you than the tint of Iron Oxide....

I had the privilege of visiting Salzburg in Austria. Best known today as the birthplace of Mozart, the city originally got its name for salt mining. I saw a sample of the natural salt straight from the mines. It had a very high concentration of iron oxide, giving it a strong brown color - not nearly so attractive as a gentle pink from Pakistan.

The dirty pink stuff is used on icy roads because it is cheaper than the recrystallised clean stuff. Doesn't matter whether it comes from Cheshire or the Himalayas.
