Synchronicity is a concept introduced by psychologist Carl Jung (1875 - 1961) "to describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection". My question is, is there any scientific basis for it? Jung was a psychologist and a scientist. But I think he had a tendency towards magical thinking himself.

And what is the current scientific view of synchronicity? Do people still believe in it? And this is going to sound strange. But has it ever been proven? Or at least has there ever been any evidence for it?

When something "appears meaningful" one is dealing with subjective effects as opposed to objective effects. As such no possibility of research into the alleged phenomenon exists. You more or less answered your own question with the reference to Jung's predilection for "magical thinking". In a word , no.

Two events are synchronous if they happen at the same time. Spurious inference of a causal link may be of interest to a psychologist, but I rather think "synchronicity" is a sloppy translation - to my mind it means the property of being synchronous and is a property of the events, independent of any observer.
