Title: Half Grey Hairs?
Post by: Zen Artist on 15/07/2005 08:08:14
At what point in the hair follicle's production of the hair does the hair start turning grey?  I've been noticing a few of the hairs on my head are grey (about 20 or so), and none of them are half grey and half colored.  All the hairs are fully grey.  I look very closely at the hairs on my head, and there are none that have grey in only part of the hair.

It would seem that there would be many hairs that are partially grey and partially colored, but every one of my grey hairs are completely grey.

I understand *why* the hair starts turning grey (in my case, white), but I am wondering why there aren't any half-colored hairs?

Hi James !..welcome to the show that is the never ending cascade of fun and games that is this site !..err....I know in my family we all turn grey quite young, with my bruv, he was turning grey at 17, I too noticed grey haits on me about 18, as for my sister...well, no one knows except her, her hair colour has been out of a bottle since I can remember !!..Cripes !!...I hope she never reads this !!...naaaa !!..I'm safe.

I reckon you're at round about the right age when most people, if they look closely enough will find the odd greying/whiting hair.

Great question though, lets hope a passing ''grey follicle' expert passes by and answers.

If its any consolation,  men who go grey young don't usually go bald!

me and me dad are the proof!

grey hair also grows faster than hair with colour, and your hair also grows in cycles, in other words while some of your hair folicles are producing hair other are laying dormant waiting for there turn.
so in a couple of month you never know its possible you could look young again.
i found the best way to deal with grey hair is to get rid of it , shave your head
