Title: Is this true?
Post by: yor_on on 08/06/2011 02:15:04
Representative Joe Read (Rep/Montana) submitted Montana House Bill 549 entitled "An Act Stating Montana's Position on Global Warming."

Content:

" (2) The legislature finds:

(a) global warming is beneficial to the welfare and business climate of Montana;

(b) reasonable amounts of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere have no verifiable impacts on the environment; and

(c) global warming is a natural occurrence and human activity has not accelerated it.

(3) (a) For the purposes of this section, "global warming" relates to an increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface.

(b) It does not include a one-time, catastrophic release of carbon dioxide."

Can this be true?

If so, Montana, or at least it representatives have showed us some real horse-sense.
Remember, we all know that sometimes horses can be real smart :)

Although, they do spread a lot of manure too?

Maybe I should follow example?

I hereby declare that whatever weather, or climate, I find in the future I will declare beneficial to our fellow jellyfish. And so naturally to us all :)

Hmmm,

I think I've heard similar statements politicizing global warming, or anti-global warming.

While I believe that much of the recent trends we've seen over the last 2 decades is due to natural cycles, it is impossible to exclude the possibility of CO2 being a contributing factor, especially when looking at longer trends.

Thus, statements like this are very counterproductive.  Personally I think we need to strive towards conservation, and long term conversion to renewable energy sources.  AS WELL AS CONSIDERING AN EVER INCREASING GLOBAL POPULATION AS A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO OUR FUTURE.

One can not legislate away science.  And, such a statement could be taken to mean a belief that we don't need to continue to seek out more information about the impact of releasing many gigatons worth of Carbon Dioxide in our environment.

I believe that Montana is a state that gets brutal cold winters, but also relatively warm, dry summers.  They may believe that they would benefit from warmer winters, but would likely also be harmed by hotter, dryer summers should they occur.

Yes, it's real.  The US political system, especially at the state level, has a lot of very silly bills put up for debate, and most of them get shot down.  A lot of it is for the bill's sponsor to put on a political show for their constituents.  This bill is listed as "probably dead".

For more silliness, check out bill 382, which would let the state nullify federal laws!

Great Idea!!!!!

At this time, 16 states PLUS Washington DC...   yes...  Washington DC....
have legalized the use of Medical Marijuana.

Yet, the possession of Marijuana is still treated as a Federal Offense.

Gotta love it.

We're all humans, and sometimes downright silly.
But endearing, to our mothers at least. :)
