I also can't decide on how many gigs i shoudl get eitehr. (I proabaly won't have any mp3's, but lots of wma files)

There's two things I know. I'd like to have it before next thursday. And its gotta be black haha.

Yeah that was one reason I wasn't leaning towards an ipod. I don't really like apple, but from what I hear they are purdy darn amazing. How many Gig's you think? THat's what I really would like to know.

The only apple product I have is my 1st generation nano, I just thought it was really neat.
Anyway "How many Gig's you think? "
Work out how many you need based on the size of your music collection.

Then double it.

Twice.

I have a 2 gig nano and I have a hard time filling it up with stuff I dont mind listening to on a regular basis. But if you listen to alot of podcasts (ie the Naked Scientists [:)]) and listen to ALOT of music, get a 4 gig.

Another option could be a music phone. You can get up to an 8 Gig cell. Its one less thing to carry in your pockets.

ON the computer i've got ruffly 450 minutes worth of songs that I really likes. Say if it was a 4 then i rounded to a 5 and then a 3 to 4. didn't matter how many seconds. I just went to the highest. to be safe. So i'll get threw my cd's soon.

I also can't decide on how many gigs I should get either. (I probably won't have any mp3's, but lots of wma files)

For 128kbits/sec encoding quality you need (fractionally under) 1MByte of storage per minute.

If you have more audiophile tendencies you might want 160kbps-256kbps, so in that case allow 1-2MByte per minute for music.
Most "talk"/voice podcasts are only 64kbits/sec, so 0.5MByte per minute.

Right now, pricewise 2GB seems to be a sweet spot for many flash-memory formats, although 4GB isn't much more expensive per megabyte. Going over 4GB is likely to get disproportionately expensive.
If you get a type of player with removeable storage, you can buy 2GB now, then upgrade to 8GB in 12-months time when it's got cheaper!

i assume you are running windows, and possibly have all your music in the "my music" folder. if you do just right click that polder and select properties. Judge the size of mp3 player from that figure.

yeah I have windows. that gives me the size though. but maybe i should spend some time and put all the cd's on the computer anyways cuz they will have to get on there sooner or later..might have to delete the sims 2 again :( for space.

The card you use to put the songs on then the cords to connect to the computer and all that other stuff. Does anyone know how many gigs you can get on that little card?
