And as regards the question - dunno. not sure I want to know - mobblies have got so complicated that I have long since stopped trying to understand them. its like the arthur c clarke law - Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

When I was lectured on the internals of computers in the late seventies we were told that there was a system of priorities built into the firmware.

An "updater program" usually is running in the background and checks for a particular entry with a newer date on the server, if there is not one there it does nothing and hibernates until the next day for the next look-in
If there is a new entry by date in the list on the server it then checks its' permissions for download of the new software add-in.
