Half the topics in the chemistry forum seem to be on how to make various explosive or explosive precursors. I somehow wonder, especially in light of the London bombings, whether this is appropriate discussion material for a serious UK based forum and suggest some proper moderation.

Don't know that the London bombings really changed that much – we've had plots to blow things up since Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of parliament.
You may argue that the present anti-terrorism legislation might make the possession of information on the manufacture of explosives of questionable legality, although much of the information involved is such common knowledge that if someone has the competence to obtain the materials and manufacture the end product, there should not be much difficulty finding the information out there.
Is the suppression of knowledge really the answer to terrorism?

Most of what has been discussed in these forums would not cause a particularly large explosion per quantity anyway. And if someone hasn't got the nous to realise that the gunpowder in a £50 box of fireworks would make a bigger bang then they probably don't have the nous to be able to detonate it!

Hi Stephen,
It's true that there quite a few topics that deal with explosive issues and your input about them is appreciated.
Because there were London bombings does not automatically mean that there can be no discussion about explosives per se. If there are posts inciting provocation to willingly act upon the advice/discussion in hand then that of course is a different matter.(PLEASE tell me if there are !!)
Without meaning to make light of the situations, talking about explosions may well act to diffuse and help understand the nature of them.
