THANK YOU KAREN & THANK YOU DAVE FOR your contributions.I am particularly interested in the explanation as to why people (who have a large quantity of shoes) own so many !Is it a case of the pleasure of shopping, trying on then buying and then owning ?Is it a case that they are to match one outfit only ?..if so ?...how often will they wear that outfit and do they consider it money well spent ?Is it the enjoyment of accumulation and the shoes are enjoyed be them worn or not ?Are the shoes regularly handled and cleaned whether they need it or not ?Does this extend to a fondness for the feet ?..they're own ?..or others ?Do they sit amongst their shoes in Shoebedoo Heaven ?Do they give the shoes away and then replace them ?...When they see all their shoes , do they see a collection ?..or do they just see foot wear ?...etc etc
OK, OK, I've voted... I think I have less than 10 pairs of shoes but I'm not actually sure. I may have more, just because I'm so bad at throwing out the ones I never use any more.Let me think...the ones I actually wearwork shoeswearing-with-a-suit shoeswearing-with-a-dress shoes (2 pairs, but one doesn't really fit)CAT bootswalking bootscanvas strap sandalsThe ones I haven't thrown out yet:old CAT bootsold sandalsold, old school shoesdancing shoes (but they're in too many pieces, and rub too much, to wear)trainers (had 'em since school but they didn't fit even then, hence not worn out)So maybe 12 actually in the wardrobe, but some of them will go in the bin next time we move house.I suspect I'd buy more shoes if I didn't have size 9 1/2 feet.. my work shoes have to come from a shop in London 'cos I can't find anything I like in Cambridge that fits. I can buy men's boots and they're only a bit too wide, but that's what laces are for, right? And I can wear size 8s for sparkly shoes to wear with a dress because there's so little to that kind of shoe I can wear them with my toes and heels sticking over the end... and that kind of shoe is so uncomfortable anyway that all the other girls generally want to take theirs off too before I get blisters (and anyway at 5'9" plus it's not like I want to wear huge heels).PS I guess people are allowed to refer to Dave's girlfriend as "Dave's sweetie" as long as they don't know it's me. Anyone refering to me personally as "Dave's sweetie" is in serious trouble
