Title: Can sodium nitrate ignite thermite?

Hi there

If I want to prepsre Iron oxide/aluminum foil thermite is it possible to ignite it with sodium nitrate?


I dont have sparklers or magnesium ribon I only have siduum nitrate

Why not buy some magnesium ribbon then? Sodium nitrate is a power and will fizz and burn but not with sufficient heat output, I wouldn't think, to ignite thermite.
