Chemistry / Why adding a fizzy drink to ice does the temp drop below the temp of the ice?
« on: 25/02/2023 18:22:07 »
Dearest Peeps who know oh so much !

I heard that when you add a fizzy drink to ice, the drink actually gets colder than the ice is  !!  What is it with this evil sorcery !!!!!

Why's that then ?....Could we continually add more and more till we reach absolute zero ?

so:

Why when adding a fizzy drink to ice does the temperature drop below the temperature of the ice ?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How Do We Know The Universe is 13.8B yrs Old If We Can Only See The Observable ?
« on: 25/02/2023 14:36:25 »
Hi, I'm Sheepy how are ewe ?

As a keen Astro photographer I am proud to have the record for the most pretentious "selfie" of all time.

Trust me, It was rather hard holding the selfie stick for this one !!

In the above non-doctored-bona-fide-true-to-scale photo I was contemplating on the age of the Universe.  How can we know it is 13.8 billion years old if all we can see is the observable Universe ?

How can ewe deduce the age of the Universe if ewe can not see the unobservable Universe in all its non viewable grandeur ?

**As a firm believer in empirical study I sneaked into my neighbour's house at 3am this morning and he gladly did not resist when I chloroformed him. I strapped him to a firework with a piece of foil (solar sail 2cmx 2cm)  attached and launched him. I told him that all he need do is hold his breath and to not let go of the end of the tape measure and stop watch,  Whilst we await the data can you answer the kweschun ?

** The Naked Scientists does not condone this type of behaviour. Sheepy is a trained sheep. I mean, who in their right mind would use a solar sail of 2cm squared ? we all know it should be at least 2.5cm !!

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / If I Throw A Ball From The ISS, Will It Eventually Return From The Other Side
« on: 24/02/2023 14:57:29 »
Dearest Iss-ologists,

As a sheepy I of course spend most my time creating experiments that need to be performed in Space. It's all I think about , from the moment I awake, to the time I fall asleep.

So, whajafink of this one ? Throw a ball from the ISS in a way that it will return from the other side ?

do-able ?

Geology, Palaeontology & Archaeology / What is the 26 second pulse of the Earth ?
« on: 24/02/2023 14:26:47 »
Dearest Pulseologists,

Ewe know who ewe are.....with the insatiable desire to keep taking pulses !!

As a sheepy I of course know all about pulses, I am an expert having had a pulse all my life.

One thing I was recently made aware of is that the Earth has a 26 second pulse !!!...what's that all about ?

Please deliver me an answer as I am about to become a first aid sheep and I need to know how to resuscitate the Earth should it it's pulse weaken or even stop !!

so, What Is The 26 Second Pulse Of The Earth ?

thanking ewe for your pulse related answers

Just Chat! / Ridiculous Scientific Complaints
« on: 05/02/2023 23:58:47 »

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my disappointment with the size of the universe. I have recently become aware of the vast expanse of space and the infinite number of galaxies that exist beyond our own, and I must say, I am not pleased with what I have learned.

I understand that the universe is vast and has no limits, but I cannot help but feel that it is too big for my liking. The idea of being just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things is overwhelming and makes me feel insignificant. I cannot comprehend the distances involved, and it is a source of anxiety for me.

I would like to request that the size of the universe be reduced to a more manageable size. I understand that this is a tall order, but I believe it is possible. I believe that a smaller universe would provide a sense of comfort and security to many people who feel the same way I do.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / As The Andromeda galaxy gets Closer Do We See It Younger ?
« on: 03/02/2023 13:54:47 »
Dearest Galaxyologists,

Thank ewe for all the ' galaxy' work you do. It's appreciated.  :)

As a sheepy, I of course know all there is to know about Galaxies. I'm torn between them and Cadbury but they are both very nice (UK joke-https://www.galaxychocolate.co.uk/) and on they go like lovers in slo-mo on the beach they are running towards each other...awwwwwwwwww !!!

As ewe all know, in the red corner we have Andromeda and in the Blue corner we have The Milky Way (also choccy themed...hmmmmmm !)

The Andromeda and Milky way just moments ago  billions of years in the future (no oxymorons here I assure ewe)

So, as Andromeda gets closer will we be able to see it get younger as the light won't need to travel so far is not it ?

General Science / Why Does Making A Sandwich Enable Ewe To Cut Anything?
« on: 01/02/2023 19:15:31 »

Dearest Sandwichologists,

As a sheepy I of course luff sandwiches. Nothing completes my day without it being filled with the consumption of a bread filled snacky snack

Non doctored  true-to-scale (1-1) bona-fide image of my sandwich just moments ago.

What I would like to know is why does cutting something in half become so much easier when ewe make a sandwich of it  ?  doesn't matter what it is....once it's between the duvet joy of two slices it's easy to cut !

Why's that then ?

If ewe could hurry up and provide a solution as I'm about to say " no bid" in my bridge game !....and I need to provide a topic of conversation during tea break !!

thank ewe

Geology, Palaeontology & Archaeology / Could There Be Dinosaurs Floating In Space ?
« on: 05/07/2022 18:42:47 »
Dearest Dinosaurologists and the spirit of  Dicky  (quick kwiz, whom am I referring to ?,,,,easy peasy lemon squeezy)

Dinosaurs are my all time favourite animal that lived millions and millions*of years ago !  Out of all the Triassic reptilian animals that existed millions of years ago, Dinosaurs are my No 1 fave.

(* For all the creationists, that's a bigger number than 6000. I know it's difficult because it;s a big number but.....try !!)

Look here's a happy bunch having their day ruined by a cataclysmic event.

A happy bunch of Dinos about to have their day ruined millions of years ago just now. Bona-fide real photo from the time.

So, as a consequence of the extinction event do ewe think it's probable that bits of dinosaurs are floating around us in orbit ?

I’m referring to the impact blast ejecting Dino space bound.

I propose we send some paleontologists up there with a net

Technology / What Is The Benefit Of Cryogenically Treating Cables ?
« on: 15/06/2022 14:23:52 »
Dearest Coldologists,

As a sheepy I luff my music, in fact I absolutely luff it very muchly. Sad to say but I'm a bit geeky when it comes to Hi Fi components and my interconnects and loudspeaker cables are Deep Cryogenically treated. Now I recall doing blind tests and there was a definite improvement in dynamic and control when using these cables.

Can ewe tell me  what the science is and why treating  audio cables cryogenically makes such an improvement ?  would this method work for cables of any kind for any use ?

General Science / Absolute Zero. How Do We Know It's Temperature If It's Impossible To Reach ?
« on: 15/06/2022 12:44:49 »
Salutations Academians,

As a sheepy I of course know everything there is to know about......being a sheep. Ewe would think and expect this knowledge to include all there is to know about Absolute Zero, I mean, it's obvious isn't it ? Sheep= Absolute Zero knowledge. Blatant !! Surprisingly and astonishingly though I am somewhat lacking in that regard.

Take a look at Kelvin the Fridge/Freezer

Kelvin The Fridge Freezer Just Moments Ago

As ewe can see one of Kelvins USP's is that he can attain the temperature of Absolute Zero ! But Absolute Zero is impossible to attain yes ? Whilst I consider what actions to take can someone please inform me of how is it known the temperature of Absolute zero if that temperature is impossible to reach ?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Does The Gravity Of A Black Hole Travel Faster Than The Speed Of Light ?
« on: 14/06/2022 16:46:06 »

Dearest Blackhologists,

If nothing can go faster than the speed of light in the universe, then  in contrast ,surely the 'gravity' of a black hole must do eh ? Is there an explanation for the gravitational pull/speed being so strong that light can not escape ? Is gravity...travelling then ?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How Can Voyager Be In Interstellar Space If They Haven't passed The Oort Cloud ?
« on: 06/06/2022 17:14:53 »
Dear Peeps Of My Respek and Academic Distinguishment,

Take a look at this bona-fide piccy I just took of Voyager 1 just moments ago.

Voyager One (or two...I didn't ask )  Just Moments ago

Why do they say Voyager 1 and 2 are in interstellar space when they have not passed the Oort cloud ?

what's that all about ? Should not Interstellar Space be PAST the OOOOOORRRTTTTTTT CLOUD ?

Physiology & Medicine / Does reasoning like humans exist in one species only ?
« on: 28/05/2022 13:56:17 »
Do ewe think it would have been possible for another species with the same rationale, intellect and thought processes as humans to have evolved along side humans ? (besides myself that is!)

Or, do you think that our existence is prerequisite upon only ONE species being able to think like humans ? One per planet ?

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Why Are There No Freshwater Cephalopods?
« on: 28/05/2022 13:20:12 »
Dearest Celaphalopdologists,
Meet Arbuthnot Saline The 3rd. He's a happy chappy living the ocean life, carefree , nonchalant and a bit of a player !!

But, there is one thing that bothers him, he's got no cousins that live in fresh water ? why's that then ?

Why are there no freshwater squid, octopi,  etc etc ?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Why does The Sun's Polarity Change Every 11 years and Earth's is so unreliable ?
« on: 27/05/2022 19:39:23 »
Dearest Polarity experts ?

The Sun is well big, a million Earths could fit inside it making it nice and cosy (cozy- USA translation service)..sheesh !! )  during those harsh winter climes. Of course, there are much larger stars, Stephenson2-18 for instance but none of them compare to Sheepys ego .....................of course !! (I am an 'arrogant-free-sheepy')

Anyway, digressing like I do I want to get to the main topic in that why does the Sun's polarity change ? why every 11 years ? and why does Earths change so irregularly like every 300000 years etc and we are well overdue !! What's the universal standard Solar Polarity Change Interval nowadays ?

Your thoughts would be most gratefully received.

Zank ewe

Making your spots so very dull
