Does anyone know how to find reputible buyers for my Beatles albums?
« on: 24/05/2011 13:16:50 »
I have many unopened mint condition Beatles albums,
two versions of the white album, as well as ten or
so more albums in mint condition.

Has anyone had any experience in this department..?

I have asked friends for help in the past but no
one seemed to know what to do..or wanted too
Then I tried to give them away and have since found
out they are worth a lot of money..LOl I am in the
market to buy a reliable little car instead of my
mini van. I need something fuel efficient and I
think this will help me dig up a resource for the
financial end.

I have been giving away all my record albums, but
these I think I will try to sell.

I do not want any links posted here in the forum but
would appreciate some advice and perhaps if you know
a reliable source you could message me the info.

Thanks guys and let me know eh?

I guess you could try eBay?? I must have a couple of hundred albums (vinyl) of Jazz, classical, popular - everything but C and W :-) - and have not played any of them for over 10 years. Other media is better and more convenient. I don't even know where to give them away.

If you have this one it might be worth a couple of bucks.

That is a lot to pay for a plastic disk.............

Then again, I have a few 78's and have even done a transfer to cd of a EP that required resampling to get the right range, as I could not play a 16 2/3 RPM record at anything other than 33 1/3 RPM. Almost all are in digital form now, the originals are in a box, along with the record player. It is getting hard to get a stylus these days, the last time I had to get a whole headshell, to accommodate a DJ cartridge which is available locally. My ex brother in law has no problem with needles for his wind up gramophones though, he bought a few boxes of them on auction.

E-Bay is a good place to capture a wide audience.
Craigslist may catch some local interest too.

It depends on how much fun you want to have trying to sell it, and whether you wish to bargain.

There are Beatles Conventions around, although I'm seeing notes on the internet of past dates.

Also, consider going to a local record store or music store and asking if they will do consignments.  The biggest thing would be getting a good appraisal.  You might get a guess based on past and present E-Bay sales amounts, but it may be difficult for pristine copies.

Searching on the web also indicates a few Beatles Museums that might be interested in donations.

It would be fun to head to the Antiques Roadshow sometime, although apparently you must acquire a ticket at a ticket lottery in the early spring.

Also, look for Beatles Forums on the WWW.

I'm not sure I'm willing to trade a house for a record.

Whew, think of the cost of a slip and a scratch!!!!!!!!

Yes, but don't forget it's "Stereophonic".

Here's a quetion. If it's never been played, how does anyone know what's actually on it? I mean, it could be Gerry and the Pacemakers, and no one would ever know. So if you did spend $125,000 on it, the last thing you would do is actualy play it, but how would you know you hadn't been stiffed?

I remember seeing (on some mad saturday night talent show) a kid who could tell the tune of a record from looking at it carefully.  I was never sure if it wasn't an elaborate hoax but they got a serious musician (solti or menuhin - a real eminence) in to be the adjudicator - the kid passed with flying colours!

Well now, M'lady, I think you might be a tad disappointed to find that your Beatles LP's may not be worth very much.

To be of any value, they need not only be in mint condition, but also 'first pressings'. Second and subsequent pressings have very little value.

But the big problem with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, Beach Boys and others of that ilk is the number of LPs pressed and sold, which runs into the millions. So, no rarity value.

By contrast, I have a couple of first pressings of Trees albums 'Garden of Jane Delawney' and 'On the Shore'. Because these sold in far far fewer numbers, they do have rarity value. A couple of these recently sold for close to £200 each.

There was a story of a man who put his mint condition first pressing of Queen's first album 'Queen' on eBay, with a atarting price of £5000.00 only to find it was so common, it was only worth about £10.00
