Strange are the ways of programmers I said you cannot run Arcsoft with the latest windows 10 14955, not quite true you can't load it but you can copy it lock stock and barrel from an earlier version then it runs fine, it is surprising how many programs are portable in this way.

Listening to computer security guy, it appears that there is a group of computer hackers who monitor software updates (especially any that say "Security").
- They reverse-engineer the patch to find what was fixed
- They then deduce which vulnerability it is now blocking
- Then they mass-deploy attacks against this vulnerability in order to conscript as many machines as possible to their botnet before the users install the new patch

So the message was: Accept the update ASAP, because there are plenty of hackers out there who are trying to hack your computer before you install the update!

Getting really fed up with windows 10 they have loused up IE11 which I like to force one to use Edge with loads of advertising that you can't get rid of while Adblock works fine on IE11.
At the moment I am running Windows 8.1 and it makes you wonder why you ever bothered with 10!

I don't mind windows 10 as an interface but I am mystified by what the "settings" options actually do. What is the poitn of this impotent bunch of pop ups that don't let you actually "do" anything. I end up searching out and using control panel because "settings" won't let me change what I want to change. Yet Settings is not linked to the relevant part of control panel... so aggravating.

Beware of new version 14971 useful programs have been removed and a source of frequent crashes introduced.
Be Shure and keep a backup of the millennium version handy.
I have been cursing how difficult IE11 has become of late, there is a simple solution run it as administrator.

Go into the shortcut that opens it and modify in properties.

If I view TNS with IE11 I constantly get the script error , it is no problem if I use edge .
I have had this for years on several computers on other forums no problem, any ideas I have tried many things.

I have found the cure!! Open up a page that throws up lots of script errors (TNS is a good choice),
Then hit F12 P1 appears.
Then make sure script debugger is switched on (showing blue/black not red) and enter ctrl-shift-e
Three choices appear Select "Never break on exceptions"

Congratulations to Chris et al for getting the simplicity out of signing on , no longer the boring double click of the mouse and then you are in but now more like a challenging half hour exercise

Is any one using Sci_hub a wonderful Russian development that enables you to read publications such as NATURE for free, there is of course an ethical problem but for a poverty stricken OAP like me there would be no likelihood of me paying so I don't feel to guilty

Since about 6 weeks ago I have been quite unable to run DISM always being told the source file is not available, it always used to run with the simple command  "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth"  but despite three system updates from 14896 to 15007 it will no longer run.
Can anyone else run it ?

With the current version of windows 10 15007 one has to take care when writing replies to forums, its all to easy to write a long piece and have it disappear when you go to post it.
Be sure to write it separately and paste it in.

We have just snuk up to update 16199 with no problems except for the computer being out of action for 15 minutes and Redmond's efforts to force Bing and Edge on me

This all happen due to the Windows 10 automatic update option enabled. So, to fix this disable the Windows 10 automatic update option
•   Press the Windows logo key + R then type gpedit.msc and click OK.
•   Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
•   Double-click Configure Automatic Updates.
•   Select Disabled in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and OK to disable the Windows automatic update feature.
Note: If you need to update your Windows version later, you can repeat the steps above, then select Enabled to turn on this feature, so that you can continue to download the updates.
