Mammoth found in Wyoming! Sharing exciting pictures here!
« on: 22/04/2018 20:41:22 »
Mammoth found about 2 miles from our house here in Wyoming! They are casting it today and removing it as quickly as possible due to increasing water levels of the low reservoir it was discovered in! Ill keep posting photos for you to see!

Here is the exposed tooth found about 20 feet from the rest of the mammoth! Easily identifies what creature this was when it was first found a few days ago! This land will be underwater again in about 1-2 weeks with the snow run off the mountains, so they are moving fast to remove!

Wow - you are lucky - are you actually there watching the excavations?

Yes, We are out here watching them as they work on removing it! The site is usually underwater because its part of the reservoir so water is coming up quickly and they need to get it out quick. As you can see they have some bone fragments at the back end casted and they are working on getting underneath the one exposed rib you see towards the front.

You're really lucky to get to see that! Did they drain the water level down in order to recover the bones, or was the water level serendipitiously low already?

The reservoir is low in the winter and then rises in the summer with the snow melt off from the mountains surrounding.
