What are the chances of re-infection for someone who hasn't had the vaccine?

Nick would like some advice on what to do in this situation.

"My 32 year old son refuses to have any of the three Covid 19 vaccine jabs currently available. Inevitably, he eventually caught Covid and suffered what might be described as 'a bad dose of flu'. He eventually recovered but now with the onslaught of Omicron and its high infection rate, what sought of risk does it pose to him? He thinks he has a small chance of infection and that it will probably only be similar to cold symptoms."

He will probably be lucky; he might not.
It's not really possible to tell.
But a vaccination will improve his odds.

Early reports out of Africa indicated that infection with Delta did not provide much protection against Omicron (Omicron has many mutations compared to Delta). Subsequent research has borne that out.
- Fortunately, Omicron is less lethal than Delta.

Omicron is probably not the last wave of COVID-19, and a vaccination a few months after Delta infection would give his immune system a "reminder" to be on the lookout for COVID.
