Different types of thermometers have their limits in range and linearities. How would you calibrate them against each other, if temperature is not well defined in standardized definition?
After 16 pages you sound more confused about temperature than when you started.   :o

So it seems only short people experience this where walking becomes harder than running up steep hills but I can't find find the answer as to why.
Please define the term 'harder' in this case.  If you run a 100 yards up a hill vs walking your heart rate will be higher your body temperature will be elevated and your muscles will produce more lactic acid so I am not sure what you mean.

May be it's not relevant to the title or theoretical consideration. But it's relevant if we want to get experimental evidence.
A poorly designed and executed experiment gives meaningless results.

Difference in density tends to make bottom part of the bath warmer than the surface.
You can only make stuff warmer by adding energy, so that finding can not be relevant to the discussion.

You will not get experimental evidence of what happens at 0C (as per the thread title) unless your equipment is at 0C.

How would you calibrate them against each other,
Practically speaking, like this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Temperature_Scale_of_1990

Theoretically, like this

This article shows the difference between Reflection,-Refraction,-and-Diffraction.
Why did you post it?
To remind you that not every kind of wave spreading is called diffraction.
How did you come to the mistaken conclusion that I had said, or even thought, that it was?

Things aren't quite that bad. She may not find it easy to calculate, but it's very easy to measure with a thermometer calibrated in K.

Physiology & Medicine / Why do I find it easier to run up steep hills than walk up them
« Last post by Memaby on Today at 09:51:56 »
I am a relatively short person. 5'4" or 162cm but I am all torso with short legs. My partner is over 6'. I often find that when I go hill walking if I hit a particularly steep section it becomes very hard to walk up and mechanically feels easier to run up it, so I do. My partner always finds it bizarre and does not seem to experience this.

I asked the question on a fitness forum I am on and a lot of the short people knew *exactly* what I was talking about and everyone else seemed to think I was asking a different question (why it's easier for short people to run up hill compared to tall people). All of my googling brought me answers to that question too.

So it seems only short people experience this where walking becomes harder than running up steep hills but I can't find find the answer as to why. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Climate 'pinpricks'

" Historic heatwave poised to hit dozens of US states this weekend "

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/may/20/us-heatwave-weekend-temperatures-climate-crisis

" India’s wheat farmers count cost of 40C heat that evokes ‘deserts of Rajasthan’ "

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/may/21/india-wheat-farmers-40c-heat-food-security

and Europe

" Unseasonably high temperatures have been affecting both Iberia and France over recent days. Temperatures have been about 10-15C above average thanks to a southerly flow of very warm and dry air from north Africa.

On 17 May, temperatures across much of Spain, as well as southern and central France, widely exceeded 30C. A top temperature of 35.5C was recorded in the southern Spanish province of Huelva, with a provisional high of 32.9C recorded in the French commune of Montélimar. La Hague near the Channel hit 26.6C, beating the May record for this location set 100 years ago."

I say two decades, and I do think I'm correct. That's our window of opportunity. Go to war instead, over resources and geopolitics, and you can forget about everything else. That will just be you, signing your death certificate.
