For example, if a plane goes down in flames, would a thermos onboard more or less remain intact? An episode of a tv series from the 1970s is what's inspiring me to ask this.

The traditional "thermos" bit is made of thin glass and very fragile.
So they wrap it in a steel housing, with some padding.

I doubt the glass would survive a plane crash- but it might.

A paper note put inside the flask probably would- especially if it was thrown clear by the crash.

It's plausible enough for a film.
But it's not a valid escape capsule for your pet mouse.


Modern vacuum flasks, made entirely from stainless steel, are probably not relevant to 70s films.

Is this a reference to "hot money" perhaps? Why else would anyone put a piece of paper in a Thermos?
