Title: What is Baby monitor????
Post by: martinaluis99 on 01/12/2011 11:19:50
A baby monitor is a device that helps you watch over your baby even when you are not physically present in the room. If your baby is sleeping and if you are in another part of the house, an alarm or signal alerts you as soon as your baby wakes up or cries.

There are several types of Baby monitors available. Some simply allow you to listen to the sounds from your baby's room, some - also allows your baby to listen to your voice from another part of your home. Some are mobile and can be shifted from room to room along with your baby. The high end ones have a video facility that allows you to see your baby on a screen and some send out an alarm if your baby's breathing is interrupted. Most monitors have add-on features like soft music, colourful lights, remote control operation and temperature readings. They usually work as night lights as well.

Digital baby monitors are very common in the West, primarily because co-sleeping is not a very popular option. Most babies sleep in their own room or nursery which is why baby monitors are essential.

A good description of the device.  I had always thought of them as a cheap walkie-talkie.  But, perhaps things have changed in recent years.

Many parents certainly are concerned about SIDS, so alarms might be good.
