The more eggs you want to boil in a pot the less water you can put there because the volume of the water plus that of the eggs can not be greater than the volume of the pot, as long as it is preferable the eggs should be completely submerged in water.

Not wanting to detract from the question, but I remember camping, we were not high up, but it was a cold morning.  A dozen or so eggs were boiled and people took them off on their climbs.  Later when it came to eating the eggs they were not hard boiled, and yet it seemed as though they had had a good amount of time on the boil.  The eggs may have started off cooler than usual due to the weather, but it's something that has stayed with me.   As one of us rolled the egg on their trousers to show off egg-peeling only to have egg all over themselves.
