Can I remove The "U" key on my acer note book?
« on: 31/12/2009 09:24:43 »
It feels like when your transmission goes and getting into gears feel like you are pushing the stick shift into the mud.. except that this happens when pushing the "u" key down? I think there is a crumb or something under the key...I am guilty of dropping crumbs over my key board.. and never bought a rubber cover for it!

So what do you think?

You can remove the whole keyboard and replace it as my son had to do it when he poured coffee into it but I'm not sure if you can get single keys off. I'll ask Murray.

This is why I hate laptops!

Sooner or later, the keyboard gets screwed up, or the hinges break, or something fails, and they are really difficult to repair. However, if you really need the portability, then you have little choice.

I recently bought a new PC for Mrs G. She does not do anything that requires a lot of power, and she does not need portability, so I got a tiny little desktop PC that runs on an Intel Atom processor. It drives a really nice big monitor that has a TV tuner built in. I bought a wireless keyboard/mouse combo for $15! The PC cost $200. If anything fails, I'll simply replace it. And I can upgrade any part of the combination without replacing the whole shooting match.

BTW, the PC is small enough that you can mount it on the back of the monitor! I have not bothered to do that though.

Clean under the keys of the Keyboard
Q. Can I remove the keys from the keyboard to clean under them?

A. It is suggested to use 'canned air' to remove any debris which may have accumulated under the keys of the keyboard.  Damage caused to the unit by removing keys from the keyboard is not covered under the warranty.

Q. Keys Missing or Broken on the Keyboard
There are keys missing or broken from my keyboard, what can I do?

A. In the event that the units keys are missing or broken you will need to contact service for repair. There is a possibility that you will be charged for repair of the keyboard pending inspection of the unit.

Note: Acer does not provide keyboards, or keyboard parts to customers to be replaced by the end user. If the keyboard is damaged or if there are keys missing on the keyboard, you will need to contact service for repair.

Sounds like a simple little computer.. I do need mobility for everyday things.. I still have my big computer for the more complicated applications such as art stuff and photo projects etc....

Yes, it is a simple little computer. It is also made by Acer and I think it's the same as the ones they put in their notebooks.

I have taken computer parts to my local garage (Gas station) that has a good compressor for inflating tires, this is ideal for blowing out dust and foreign bodies.

I have a 3 horsepower compressor that should work as well if I put the spray air attachment on it! Thanks Syhprum I did not think about that...I clean the Hepa filter on my vacuum cleaner with the compressor.. I never thought about blowing the keyboard out.. LOL Good idea! Thank you  so much!
