Apple cider vinegar for cholesterol and arteries?

I have been told to drink it to aid with cholesterol! I don't know that it doesn't work but don't know that it does either. My Doctor suggested it! She is into wholeistic natural herbal therapy and remedies before and with other medications.

When dealing with cholesterol and CVD one may  look at proper eating patterns focusing on a higher soluable content with proper combination of the proper fat ratio.  Apple cider is loaded with nutrients that help with the heart. potassium is probably the most benefical compenent of apple cider along with malic acid that can help with FM.  One has to be careful because too much acid will erode your enamel on your teeth leaving hello film on them.  Some people may recommend drinking it through a straw to avoid this. More so the most benefit people get from ACV is the increase of acetic acid which can fuel the krebs cyle providing cellular energy.

Neil - the best way to lower cholesterol is to lose weight. As weight drops, so does your cholesterol level.

Apple cider vinegar might know how to lower cholesterol [nofollow]. According to a study by the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and published in 2009 in "Lipids in Health and Disease," apple cider vinegar reduced the amount of LDL or bad cholesterol in the blood of rabbits. It is not yet known if these results can be duplicated in humans

For those of us seeking scientific evidences of the effects of ACV on hypertension, here's what I found:

Quote
Kondo and colleagues[30] reported a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (approximately 20 mm Hg) in spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats fed a standard laboratory diet mixed with either vinegar or an acetic acid solution (approximately 0.86 mmol acetic acid/day for 6 weeks) as compared with SHR rats fed the same diet mixed with deionized water. These observed reductions in systolic blood pressure were associated with reductions in both plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone concentrations (35% to 40% and 15% to 25% reductions in renin activity and aldosterone concentrations, respectively, in the experimental vs control SHR rats). Others have reported that vinegar administration (approximately 0.57 mmol acetic acid, orally) inhibited the renin-angiotensin system in nonhypertensive Sprague-Dawley rats.[31]

As far as I know ACV contains potassium, so it may increase your potassium levels...
