My dog gets the same dry dog food every day. It seems to supply all he needs. Well, he needs water still. And when he gets older I may have to buy a slightly different dried food. Basically though, he eats one food plus water. Boring maybe, but very practical.
Can we create the same for human consumption? A dry food that supplies all nutrients? "Soylent Green" wafers but without human flesh? What would need to be in it? What is the closest to this that one can buy?

Prunes?

How boring that would be...I think people thrive on a varietyof flavors textures ect.... how sad to think it would all be the same dry boring meals...
-
I think it could definitely be done. There's no reason why it would work for a dog but not a human, is there? It might taste bad, though. Unless artificial flavorings are added.
-
Haha, I just read this on the internet: Human kibble is already made. It's just called cereal.
-
Have you ever tried freeze dried backpacking food?
-
Is it true that baked beans can achieve this purpose?
-
kipple yes, kibble no.

Yes, it would be boring. My dog is bored too. But it would be sooooo practical!

I just learned a new word. And what a good one it is.

That is probably as close as it get right now. I have not tried, but will. Probably expensive.
-
i keep looking at this and don't call me stupid or anything but what is kibble. [???]
-
kibble is dry dog/cat food.
"kibble - coarsely ground grain in the form of pellets (as for pet food)"
-
Q. "Do you like Kipling?
A. "Dunno, I've never Kipled"
-
i don't think I'll be trying that any time soon.
-
Might be a little weird to suggest, but along the lines of kibble, all this media attention about that coming rise in sea levels and potential doomsday due in 2030-50 from lack of food did get me thinking. Unless everyone thinks dessicated noodles are the solution to a food crisis, it would be good to be able to stock up on 'Kibble'. Are any of you familiar with manufacturing a cheap organic kibble product with a 1000 year shelf-life?
Also pls reply to me or my email if you are also interested in investing in manufacture of this 'Doomsday Kibble' (in an affordable 3rd World country of course), otherwise imagine being the main supplier of UN Food programmes and such . . . [8D]
(Joke Advertisement : Invest in "Doomsday Kibble International" so that we can cling to religion and guns and marry our cousins without starving for the next 1000 years . . . )

I heard something about a similar served in prisons the other day. They called it "nutri-loaf". I had high hopes and looked it up. Unfortunately it is not what I thought it would be. It is just the regular food put in a blender and served without utensils and trays.
And someone else mentioned an algae that is supposed to be all you need to eat to live. Forgot the name though. Anyone here know it?

Hope you're still interested. I was thinking exactly the same thing when I was feeding my dog. I wondered whether it could be made cheaply enough to feed the world's millions of undernourished and malnourished who consequently suffer physical and mental deficits. I thought about living on such a diet for a year in a first world country like the USA. Would the monotony of it sharpen your other appetites like sexual or desire for sensual stimulation? What are the moral implications? Would such people become truly healthy; not having to worry about cholesterol, saturated fats, salt, etc. It would be the perfectly balanced nutritionally perfect diet. What do you think?

Well, I am just not interested in cooking. I love eating but not so much that I find it enjoyable to prepare food. It takes so long and the pleasure lasts such a short time in comparison. My favorite meal is breakfast (cereal) for a reason. I like the food and I like how fast it is prepared in relation to how long it takes to eat. And since my dog eats only one thing and seems healthy I was wondering what would be the human equivalent. The questions remains: What (proteins, fats, carbs, vitamins (which?), minerals (which?), fiber ,etc) does a human being need to take in every day at what ratio to live well and long? Mix this up, make it in different flavors, prepare it for long dry storage, voila! Where do I find the necessary info regarding human nutritional requirements?
