New Theories / Re: Can an atom absorb a photon, yet its total kinetic energy is decreased.
« on: Yesterday at 23:50:28 »
Quote from: theThinker on Yesterday at 15:09:39
Let's assume an atom consists of the nucleus and electrons as point particles. Take the inertial frame to be that of the fixed laboratory. Its total energy consists of the total kinetic and potential energy of the system of particles. If an electron absorbs a photon of energy E, the total energy of the atom increases by E. Can it happen that this increase in energy result in an increase of its total potential energy = E + Del(potential energy) and its total kinetic energy decreases by Del(potential energy).

I do not see why not. To stop anything I'm motion gives rise to an increace in PE, like turning the gates on a dam. No KE more PE. If an atom is travelling in one direction and is struck by an photon in an opposite direction absorbing it, the kinetic energy is transferred  the atom.  Like wise when a photon leaves an atom the atom is the opposite reaction.

Nor do I particularly fancy anyone else's cave: I  bought an adequate one for money without having to kill the previous owner.
Typical over 50s attitude. In today's market even around honourable Cambridge to get a cave is probably murder.

Nothing wrong with the country - I appreciate every aspect of the landscape and natural history - but most of the time it seems to be governed by crooks elected by idiots obsessed with the right to kill each other and bankrupt the sick.
You are hung up on the right to kill people Alan, I am quite worried. Everybody has the right to kill people, just not without retribution, as it always was. Society is the same stone throwing cavePERSONS as it always was. You have to ask why is it cave peoples? Why do people like your good self wish to go and kill others. My guess is that it is capitalism, possession of land, who has got the best cave. If everybody had a cave of equal value would your need for blood be quenched?

This gives an opportunity to build new schools with the car lanes integrated into the classroom. The room means extra space for the teacher to patrol and also reduce the next pandemic predicted by Bill Gates and his associates like the FDA/CDC,NIH,WHO, ETC in 2024 or is it 2025?
We could just have drive in schools like the cinemas, children would never leave the car and no need for a scho building

Cambridge with its world-class university and high-tech industries unsurprisingly has some of the lowest unemployment rates of any city in the country.

I'm guessing that's from the report?

Liberal district council who are bent on pouring concrete over the countryside to appease some unaccountable consultancy that has A Computer Model but admits to having no actual data or interest in facts.
I imagine that is a proposed business that will bring jobs to the region, housing is not allowed on greenbelt, they have to wait 10 years for the site to become derelict and the site to become classified as brownfield.

Petro, this is all hindsight. When a novel virus appears it is far better to be cautious rather than careless. No one knew how bad it could get. The young doctor in china who broke the story and was initially sanctioned for doing so died from it. Given the death rate with sars we had to err on the side of caution and when the death rate rose again. 100years ago we had a much more serious problem with the Spanish flu and it could have been as bad or worse with covid-we just did not know.
We did know the mortality rate by the time lockdown ensued, there was talk at the time of a Sweden style lockdown, there was also clear knowledge of the damage that it would inflict on the youth but erred on the side of sod them. In China Winnie the poo is illegal.

What societal collapse? The fall of the Roman empire? French Revolution? American Civil War?  Berlin Wall?

What prevented societal collapse and total anarchy in Britain in the last 5 years was my changing from briefs to boxer shorts.  I defy you to prove otherwise.
I fear you are being coy Alan, the point that you replied to first of all,(and for some reason have forgotten) was the one above, which if you read the reply I made to Paul cotter has to be taken in context of Paul's reply, unless it is standard practice to say a country and a non descript phrase? Maybe corona had the effect of memory loss?

But, to misquote Mrs Beeton, first make your hydrogen. Our ridiculous government is now giving your money to a bunch of foreigners to make "green steel" in Wales by adding fairy dust to the ore that has been mined by non-carbon-emitting elves.
I see. That sort of green steel is a misconception of course, that steel does not produce steel, merley recycle it. It's so big in Scandinavia because they are virtually all powered by very low cost hydro electric, along with their heating, electric cars are also big business due to the high oil price. If I lived in Norway I'd have an electric car too, the pay back date is about 10 years.

Because it is not advised to permanently stop  periods because

1)it is unhealthy, possibly leading to things like cancer
2) it may hinder reproduction

A hisderectomy has similar results but I am unsure of the details.

Advised by whom?

Unhealthy? No proof of that.

Cancer? No evidence.

A hysterectomy? I never mentioned it and all those had it did not get cancer.

Green steel

Produced using hydrogen gas, if you have a ready supply, no c02, I mean we could have half the world asking their governments to buy it over coked steel because of climate change.

Point stands.
The point being that airborne infections spread most rapidly when people crowd together. Even the UK government realised this, until it was pointed  out that (a) it isn't true in Downing Street and (b) it would Spoil the Profits of  Christmas if everyone knew the truth.

My thoughts on the impact of amateurism in public services are unprintable in a family-friendly forum.
Nope, point being that the collapse of society did not occur in Sweden.

My point precisely. The change to methane hasn't diminished the grid's capability to handle pure hydrogen, and the change was managed very efficiently in regional sectors thanks to it being a nationalised utility at the time, so no scientific reason for not changing back.

It will of course need investment in gas storage to replace the LPG farms (but that technology is well-established) and electrolysis plant (plenty of commercial suppliers available).  Less efficient conversion of wind to useful power than batteries, admittedly, but vastly more flexible, no need to replace all domestic and industrial boilers and furnaces - just change the burner jets - and much better power to weight ratio and recharge times for surface vehicles and aircraft.
Surely the order of hydrogen conversion is houses first, half of all Uk energy use is natural gas at present. I don't think that steel is going to be a big factor, given we don't really produce any, but maybe we could produce green steel at a lower price than coke and grow an industry that way.

She did win the Falkland war however, singlehandedly freeing the islands herself, (or is that just another Misconception).
She deliberately encouraged the Argentinian invasion by depleting the garrison and withdrawing the spy ship, despite clear intelligence warnings. Machiavelli recommended the tactic for any incompetent and unpopular leader, and since both Thatcher and Galtierei met those criteria, they did it. Fortunately the outcome was less of a disaster for the residents than Bush's invasion of Iraq, though Bush's Secretary of State made a lot of money from the latter so it achieved the primary objective.
Yes it's all politics, thatcher had a fast and rapid pain free appearance to her tenure, it seems better than a slower propper functional investment of effort in the country, I suppose given Thatchers standing even today it must be what sells, as seen in HRH Blair. The lie sells and gets you the keys to number ten, it makes China seem quite rational.

I know there are people who see one event and assume it means that something also present is obviously responsible
But you can't ignore a consistent bidirectional correlation between teenage suicide and Tory government, going back over 40 years and four changes of governing party, and not synchronised with COVID or any other single cause I can think of.

Mmm, you can't ignore the correlation between the tory government and a bad economy, Thatcher was a resounding failure socially, economically and in development terms. She did win the Falkland war however, singlehandedly freeing the islands herself, (or is that just another Misconception). Perhaps that is linked, the Conservative philosophy of every individual for themselves is somehow having an effect on both?
