You forget that for centuries, a segment of the Irish population (and other groups) have been trying to storm Westminster
- The British deported some of them to North America, Australia and other places.
- It has quietened down a bit in the past 20 years, but the surveillance infrastructure is still in place...

We have had the occasional invasion of Parliament but it has never been incited by the Head of State, and rarely involved any significant damage.

Who was disenfranchised on Wednesday? Everyone I saw attacking the Capitol appeared to be a white American of voting age and AFAIK there is no minimum IQ requirement. Surely they weren't disenfranchised from what their Fuhrer swore would the fairest most beautiful and least corrupt election EVER because He had arranged it?

And there were a few guns around. Hasn't der Fuhrer decreed that an AK47 is the symbol of peaceful patriotic demonstration? Or is that only where the Governor is a Democrat?

Nope the uks  got a fence, just like the Whitehouse. Amazing to think that after 911 nothing was done outside Congress. I bet Alquaeda are kicking themselves now, a fellow on a motorbike could have zipped right to the chamber in no time

If I'm part of the "disenfranchised", I might be one of those doing it.  I'm a socialist; manning the barricades was always a hypothetical future.
In exactly the same way that the 2nd amendment says that -, in the worst case, the people can, by force, take control of the government- the UK population (well- sort of) did this in the 13th century.
That's the essence of democracy.

What's interesting is when a despot dishonestly claims to have the popular mandate and uses that as a basis for insurrection. That's what Trump did...
