Title: Does athletic performance depend on temperature and humidity?

Dear Naked Scientists,

I'm a runner who lives in Florida. As the summer progresses my speed and endurance suffers. I've always assumed it was due to the heat and/or humidity. Assuming this is not all in my head, why does temperature and humidity effect performance? Are both conditions responsible or would drier conditions have the same effect?

What do you think?
