Dear hirsute horticulturalists,
See these examples of bodily hair ?
[ Invalid Attachment ]
Nice eh ?
These are all the types of body hair that I can think of:
Head hair
Eye Brows
Eye Lashes
Moustache
Beard
Under Arm Hair
Belly Hair
Back Hair
Pubic Hair
Arse hair
Arm hair
Leg hair
Finger Hair
Toe Hair
I can't think of any others.......and that seems quite enough !!
Though all these areas of haor joy and luff produce hair to a predefined terminal length that they grow too, do they all grow at the same rate ?
I just don't know !
As a firm believer of empirical study I have completely shaved my entire body and attached about twenty five rulers to myself.........5 minutes later and I still have no answer !!....so....can ewe help ?
Ta
Hugs and shmishes
Neil

Based on personal experience, no. I have not had to trim any pubes recently and do notice none have yet reached the bottom of my trouser legs.
I don't think there is a predetermined length; hair is dead and there is no means of communicating to the follicles that it has reached some acceptable length, although there could be a time based control so that it simply stops after a certain time or falls out.
I suppose that hair could be limited because larger hairs are susceptible to being pulled out but I guess this does not apply to eyelashes though they seldom get longer that a few millimeters.
Looking at other mammals such as a horse, the mane grows much longer and (I think faster) than body hair. I see no reason why humans would have different mechanisms.

Ahh, found the definitive website:
http://www.hairlosssolution.com/hair_growth_cycles.htm
which reveals all you would ever want to know about hair growth.

Nose and ear hair! Do your lungs have tiny hairs inside?
Thats a good question.. my eye brows may grow fast like other areas, but it seems to have a limit on the length it is capable of growing as if there is something in the positioning of certain hair in certain places.. perhaps DNA or something that may help control those areas growth.....

Well. Yeah they might grow at the same rate. Neil. Shave yourself and see if they all start going back at the same time. Ha, but there has to be away for it to stop growing. LIke eyelases. they don't grow do they?

Dear Mr Ryan.....if you read my initial post then you'll see that I have in fact shaved myself silly !! [;D]...I'm as slippery as a slippery eel from the country Slip on the planet Baldy !!
yeah...eyelashes must grow !!.....surely !! [:o]

LOL.. I think its dna.. or something that limits its growth in different areas...
-
Yeah that might be it karen since everyone has different length of eye lashes and all hair for that matter. and i should be more specific. i mean like i don't htikn my eye lashes have grown for a long time? ha i mean if i cut them then of course they'd grow back, but they woudln't grow out to the lengh of girlly hair! ha

Yepperoo! Although eyebrow hairs can get out of hand as one ages... even long crazy hairs gone wild in ears nose and brows!
-
Yeah I know. My eyebrows have totaly changed from when i was young till now. ha
-
All the bits of hair that I shave on a regular basis do seem to grow at the same rate. I have never plucked off my eye lashes as I think the men with straight jackets might come.
Another question though, If I shave my lady garden the new growth doesn't make me itch but if I go for the topary method, giving it a trim, then as it starts to grow again it itches like crazy. Why?
Also aren't hormones involved in hair growth?

Yeah and hair grows out of your ears and nose. Is that to do with hormonal changes?
-
Yes definitely.. I believe that has to play a huge role right along with the dna.. Male or female..etc.
