What Ingredients are Safe to be Mixed with Carrot Juice?
« on: 17/01/2019 03:34:20 »
Okay, so my mom made me a cup of carrot juice (sometimes mixed with apples) almost everyday by my request so that my eyes will be normal again. Some weeks ago, my distant relative brought us a bottle of honey and for some weeks I mixed the carrot juice with a tablespoon of honey since my mom asked me to consume both yet I don't like the taste of either, so I mixed them in order to get the taste cancel each other out and it worked. I do however stop mixing it with honey since now what remains in the bottle has changed color already. I still have some instant coffee I got from my office since they gave us extra hours and attempted to mix it with the carrot juice but haven't dared to do it yet since I'm afraid the result will be fatal. So, is it safe to mix carrot juice with (powdered) instant coffee?

This is a myth that was created in World War 2 to explain why British pilots could shoot down so many German planes.

The real reason was that the British had invented a way to produce a microwave radar small enough to fit in a plane.

Everything you eat and drink gets mixed together in your stomach and intestines.
- You have been drinking carrot juice with no adverse effects
- I presume you have been drinking coffee for some time (?)
- So mixing them before putting them in your mouth won't be any different
- I would just limit the amount of instant coffee to the amount you would normally use in a cup of coffee.

Note: If you drink far too much carrot juice, your skin can turn orange..

Ummm... What, what? Aren't carrots supposed to contain a lot of vitamin A which is good for the eyes?

But... Sometimes mixing two different things before being put in the mouth can be fatal. The most popular cases in my country are people who mixed headache medicine and soda. They didn't survive a day after that.

Like many plats, carrots contain carotene which can be converted to vitamin A in the body.
But, once you have enough vitamin A the body stops bothering to make more.

A balanced diet will provide enough vitamin A (either as such from animal sources or as carotene from plants) so there's no need to take extra.
I'm a bit concerned about you saying

so that my eyes will be normal again.
If there's something abnormal about your eyes you need to get the advice of a doctor- not your mother's view of a WWII legend.

Also, but much less importantly

It's not just my mother's view, the school curriculum in my country actually teaches students that carrots are good for our eyes.

- Please describe what sort of headache medicine: Aspirin (fairly safe) or Heroin (excessive doses can cause breathing failure)?
- Please describe what sort of soda: Carbonated water (very safe) or Sodium Hydroxide (drain cleaner=deadly)?

Note that some forms of "dissolving" aspirin produce bubbles when dropped into water. These slightly carbonate the water, all by themselves...

I don't know the exact contents, but the headache medicine is called "Bodrex" and the soda is "Sprite" (Coca Cola's cousin).

Just for your info, I was the one who made a thread about cataract and I have undergone the surgery which means I already went to the doctor. However, my right eye still has minus (I don't know how to say it in English) more than 3 despite the cataract is already gone. When I went to buy my eyeglasses, the doctors said that the difference between both lenses shouldn't exceed 3 so they only gave me the –3 right lenses in my eyeglasses. That's why I want to know how to reduce the minus of my right eye to be at least 3 so that I can see normally with my glasses on.

Is the word "dioptres"?
Carrot juice won't help with that.
It can be useful for people who are deficient in vitamin A. That deficiency can cause eye problems.
But if you eat a normal diet you probably get plenty of vitamin A so there's no point in drinking carrot juice (unless you happen to like it as a drink)

Yes, probably that's the word. So, what should I consume to reduce the "minus"?

I understand that they often try to install a fixed focus lens when you have cataracts removed.

This means that you would need glasses for distance and/or reading.

I assume that they would choose a fixed focus lens that was not too different from your other eye?

I don't think you can eat anything to change focus.

But you can do some exercises to help eyes focus, and to correct for dominant eyes.

Food or drugs to correct short sightedness (or long) just isn't an option. How could carrots change the shape or size of your eye?
Eyeglasses or contact lenses will do it.
As I sit here, with nearly minus 10 dioptre focussing defects in both eyes, it doesn't trouble me a bit.
I have glasses on and I can see fine.

There is a popular belief that Coke can be used as virginal douche as a post coital contraceptive and that girls will retain a partly used bottle for this purpose although more effective medications are available

When I was a child before the war I was puzzled why cough mixture caused me to have difficulty focusing when I read, I now know that what are now considered dangerous narcotics were then included in cough mixtures and caused dilation of the pupils

It is standard practice in cataract surgery to fit one "normal to long" and one "short sight" lens, so if necessary you can drive or read without spectacles, then prescribe two pairs of asymmetric specs for general middle- to -long distance vision and closeup/reading work.

Having worn specs all my life, I opted for two short-sight lenses and I wear varifocal specs all day, but it's nice to read in bed or do close work without glasses from time to time.

The wartime "carrot" myth not only protected radar but also encouraged civilians to grow vegetables, carrots being particularly useful. Carotene is indeed involved in night vision, but a normal diet provides all you need.

This is true of the early versions of airborne radar.

In 1940, University of Birmingham invented a multi-cavity magnetron operating at 10cm wavelength. This was small enough to fit the magnetron and antenna in a fighter plane with no external antennas.

Hiding the existence of this invention was essential. Fighters were instructed to never fly south of the English Channel; if they were shot down over land, the magnetron might survive the impact in a recognisable state.

What kind of exercise? Is it like EMDR?

Well, if that's involved in night vision, probably I do need it. I still remember last year, June 22nd, when my friends and I got lost in a mountain during the night and it was pitch-black darkness.

Unless you are living on boiled white rice, or have other health problems, you are likely to be getting enough vitamin A.
