Check this and what do you think the short and long term effects of sex slavery are?

The psychological effects for the victim must be horrific. It is a proper life denied. The max sentence of sixteen years obviously isn't a deterrent. Of course this goes on in all countries, slavery has not disappeared. I think the customers are not right in the head either. A girl beaten into sex slavery is no "turn on" to normal men.

Nah pop no style, a strictly roots!

Nomi is my new heroine.  You know, you'd think with all the foreign aid that the US sends Israel, we could put some pressure on them to get this under control.

Thats horrific. I've seen stories of this kind of thing happening all over the place, including the kidnapping and trafficking of children, totally disgusting. I can't begin to imagine the kind of people that use these kinds of 'services'. The world needs a few more Nomi's and more politicians who will listen to them and make some changes.

Well..I just read it and Nomi is my heroine too. As Lindsy says this horriffic trafficking is commonplace more than we realise....internationally. We've had cases here in the UK too. It is so disgusting I can not find the words to adequately express how I feel about the 'people traders'....I just can't imagine how a person , a so called human being, can manifest such a lack of disregard for another human being....in fact, I'm gald to be able to not understand..........It's a great article.....shocking and disturbing.

Your posts look encouraging. In business class I mentioned this business and my teacher, from India was very accepting of this as just a part of some cultures and an Aussie student thought that it was ok because it had been going on since the 1800s. Really more like 3000 BC, the same as murder, theft and cancer...

A friend of mine who lecture at The Japanese International University said the trade is ilegal but big in Japan. As an island it is well guarded but the crims get them in.

It is in Britain and Australia... I went to a meeting and heard some federal ministers speak. One Chinese slave was here from six, last year she commited suicide at 24 with heroin. It has been ilegal for about 8 years and although thousands of girls have been deported I have only heard now of 7 arrests.

It could be happening next door. I heard gunshot months ago and told the police. A few months later they raided a house nearby and found guns and drugs. Where are these girls? Really, they are not too far away, somewhere in our capitalist cities.

Mentally and emotionally they must be scarred, and humiliated. It is hard to find and measure just what and how much they lost.

You're right there Bren,....I think unless one has an exceptional strength of nature and character and is capable of turning a negative into a positive then the anguish and scarring is something these poor girls must have to live with....forever......

I am sure (as you describe)....there is simply no recuperation from such a trauma....and dealing with it, coping with it must be a horrible learning process....probably resulting in therapy of one form or another for many many years if not for the rest of their lives.

I just can't understand your teachers acceptance....and I certainly don't agree with the fact that just because something happens for a period of time , then that must then mean that it's ok.......

You know, look how long we tolerated slavery.  Somehow the people involved must get to view the victims as some subhuman species in order to be able to treat them that way.  And even if they were subhuman, it doesn't justify deliberate cruelty to people, or even animals for that matter.  Just another instance of greed and man's inhumanity to man -- or woman, as the case may be.
