For 'unusual' read aggravating and "? what is the point".

It was the most annoying website I've seen in ages.

I suggested this (very) new science website as it contains links to a wide variety of science topics which I believe would be of interest to readers of Nakedscientist.

The creators of phylotaxis welcome "feedback and reactions" so presumably would be interested in your extreme response:-
"the most annoying website I've seen ages".

Does it actually do anything? I managed to knock things around & clicked on something but that was as far as I got. After 10 minutes nothing had happened. I tried again & still nothing happened so I gave up.

You have to click on "Launch Phylotaxis" DoctorBeaver.

This form of browser is either avant-garde or gimmicky,
depending on your taste. However the browser itself demonstrates scientific principles and has links to diverse science topics.

I actually just had some fun with it. Did you try clicking between agitate and discover ? and then sliding the dot between science and culture ? I could see how it may be deemed to be annoying for those who want to go straight to the news but it just takes a couple of clicks and you are linked to a fully fledged news item. One thing that is annoying, is when you choose a month and a year..the little black font is very difficult to see amongst the floaty dotty things. Give it another go...go on...you know you want to.

Sorry Robert.  Don't be put off by the blunt responses of people on The Naked Scientists. (That's why I like TNS - the people here are straight-talking.)  And never take it personally - nobody's getting at you.  You're right to post the link and bring relevant new sites to our attention - I've no doubt some readers will find Phylotaxis works for them.

I just find it doesn't work for me, neither the browser format (I agree with Chris - it is kind of annoying) nor the actual content when you eventually do find it (it's trying to include "something for everyone", but in so doing it ends up just skimming the surface in many cases).

And worst of all, the name "phylotaxis" sounds like a taxi service for yuppies. [:D]

Nope - no way around this one.  Feck it!

Why would you want to say "shi-tzu" in this forum anyway?

And why would I want to spell "shiitake" like that either?

Just thought of another one: "S****horpe"

Back to the matter in hand.
I finally got it to do something but it's a bit too random for my liking.

It is a different way of selecting stories, almost unstructured - as far as I can tell you just waggle the mouse about until you see something that looks interesting![:)]  There's probably more to it than that but I haven't figured it out yet.

Big problem for me was the stories seemed to take ages to load, although they were just Yahoo news pages.  Anyone else have the same problem?

Very interesting anyway, thanks for posting it Robert [:D]
