Possibly immune suppression in pregnancy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adaptive_immune_system#Adaptive_immunity_during_pregnancy) permitting a viral trigger (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bells-palsy/DS00168/DSECTION=causes) to flourish.
