Title: What happens when a photon hits an atom?

massless? wave can go thru the space, or hit an electron, or hit the nucleus particles or spaces between them? whats with the quantum thing?............thanx 8

Are you asking about how quantum properties apply to photons? If so then please see the part by Antipa in the following page

It is observed that the total energy of individual photons is always based on the frequency of the photon and all photons of the same frequency have exactly the same total energy
