Title: The Slave Trade And Persuasion Of The Conscience?
Post by: Titanscape on 01/09/2008 00:02:48
Some time ago I mentioned Noni's story and the slave trade in Israel. Vet abortions, the great losses the girls suffer, the rescues... Recently a film came out called Amazing Grace, and people were moved by it. England beat the US to abolishing slavery, and I found they did so for economic reasons, not for justice.

You here and those in a sports forum sounded fair, but in a business class they, the teacher and students including a girl from church all agreed immediately, that this was just business. I did not press the issue and a friend suggested that they could be persuaded just by understanding the issue.

So how does one persuade the conscience to activate? Pathos, ethos, logos, bathos? Images, music? A picture of a girl in a bin. A story?

Its a horrible situation and I believe that that certainly is not a majority.. I think it is atrocious and certainly not business.... It is however very sad and terrible that there are people who think of it in that way.... It is rather scary to say the least!

There are millions of injustices in the world that are swept under the carpet as just business! We as consumers are the only people who can stop them. We have to make a stand with what we buy and how we live. For example one of the components needed to make mobile phones can only be mined in one part of the world that is run by militia groups that kick people off their land and force them to work for peanuts in their mines. Their children are often kidnapped to fight for the militia. Every time we upgrade our phones we OK this situation. Companies need to know that we are not happy with this. I know buy second hand phones as I would rather reuse than put more money into these peoples hands.

Both of us realize we have no control of the actions of those long dead nor coincidences of birth.

Yeh, we can petition, and be prepeared to pay a bit more. Or the government among it's many options can tariff things, and tax cut other things.
