I have to ask. Are most of people on the Naked Scientist message boards college students and intellectuals? I know everyone is welcome. But I was just wondering who mainly goes here. I have seen some posts about farming and animal raising. Those people aren't usually intellectuals. Actually many farmers today do get degrees in agriculture and business.
Also, about how few people seem to be here (this has to do with that other thread, but I'm asking the question here). Is it because of what I just said above? These boards tend to attract only a certain group, college students and graduates. Because I was going to say, I have been on message boards since I first went on the internet about 20 years ago. They were very popular then. But many things popular then seem to be seen as a fad now. I don't know people do on the internet now. Facebook and Twitter seem popular still. That's all I know.

i think of this too, like the stuff in that Other thread...
Folks would call in, ask a question, n tune in for answers.
But they do Not necessarily register(free of cost) n try to clear all other doubts & curiosities.
Every year, at New year's Eve, i give it a serious thought...
Of joining in the Social Media craze!
& then Never go ahead with it.

Are most of people on the Naked Scientist message boards college students and intellectuals?
The first thing is that the "Guest Book" section and "Naked Scientists - The Official Book" sections don't get used much. Most of what is in here is just spam, e.g. advertising. So any post in here can go un-noticed. I hardly ever bother looking at these sections and have assumed the original web design staff put them here mainly just to act as honey-pot traps for spam (which helps to keep the real discussion boards clean).
The second thing is that there aren't many regular users of this site. It may be a world wide web but the internet has grown to be as big as that world now. There are many sites people could use and a lot of the internet goes un-noticed.
Are most people on TNS college students? Probably not, many will be a bit older. This site doesn't really have a lot of "swagger" or whatever it is they say these days. Anyway, if you had a minor question like "how do you solve this equation?", you're in a college and there's probably a whole lot of people you can ask.
Are they intellectuals? What is the right answer here? No - that will probably offend a few people. The main thing is that any experts won't need their recognition to come from a forum. For example, they won't have any need to make you feel silly. Keep all of that sort of stuff in mind when you receive replies.

A long time ago, i had Requested for newer sections such as Philosophy, Religion, Politics & maybe a Trash Bin which could include Pseudoscience.
But it fell on deaf ears & never materialized.
Still Happy, atleast ' New Theories ' allows radical ideas & ' Just Chat ' goes well with almost everything else.
ps - how's the weather?
