Usually because of stress.  Get a mouth guard from your dentist, or you can just get a sports mouth guard if you want to.

How could stress be a factor in children? My guess is my daughter is probably dreaming about eating so she grinds her teeth. But then again we can't tell whats going on in their mind while sleeping.[V]

My Husband has told me latly that I grind my teeth while I sleep.  And now my Jaw is starting to hurt.  The weird thing is....I keep having this dream that my Jaw is out of place and then I pop it back in place.  But I could swear to god that I feel everything and I'm awake.  But when I wake up in the morning I can't recall if it was a dream or not.  What does everyone else think?

There is a stage in sleep just before we wake up where our mind is just starting to tie into the real world again. At that point we are very open to suggestion and hypnotists use it. I would think that you dreamed that because you were beginning to sense what your jaw was doing.

I have had a similar dream that I have finally been able to trace to moving my tongue in my mouth and feeling the different parts of my mouth. In my dream I am trapped in a wet warm place that was pink. Physiologist had a great time with that one until I realized it was my tongue in my mouth  lol.

my brother used to grind his teeth almost every night.. I never know what the reason until I read one book. I don't know whether it's true or not. It says that, that kid use to have some kind of guardian in his/her body. and at the same time, his/her is dreaming about something which I don't what is it.. but when I was a kid, I used to dream falling from a high building many times.. may be it is one of the factor but I can't relate that dream with the reason in that book.. so, like I said, I don't know whether it's true or not..

In REM(rapid eye movement sleep) there is sympathetic influence over the body and Bruxism(grinding of teeth) occurs. In some ppls there is penile erection in this phase. It is also said that ppls who have constipation sometimes face this bruxism problem.
