After he assumed the Virgo name, and was quickly outed as a sockpuppet, MDriver1981's account was deleted - presumably by him.  However, their IP address has been banned, so it should block both accounts.

And yes, very nice witty comment.

So what did Mr creepy Driver do then? I missed that. I was about to ask the person who thought he was a good poster, where the staples went and which wall should I hang him on but, hell, ban him anyway.

He called dentstudent a Nazi.
That was after he'd decided to create a new account.
That was after he'd decided to make fun of some Africans.
That was after he'd posted some random threads about movies that no one had ever seen.
That was after he'd posted something about white Christian guilt to Don_1.
That was after he'd posted some things about taking a journey inside my pants.
That was after he told me the World Trade Centres still existed.
That was after he'd smoked about 28g of cocaine.
That was after he'd decided to commit suicide.
That was after he'd brought a cat translator.
That was after he'd formed a society for the never nude.
That was after he'd decided that my business was actually his business.
That was after he said that a man's penis could control a V-2 rocket attack.
That was after he'd decided that he didn't want to share the planet with any animals.
That was after he said "Food sex is having sex and eating at the same time".

I missed most of the details, and I agree with reigning in those who continue to be offensive after they were told, those who insult others, or banning those who try to get around forum rules to continue upsetting people. However, most of the examples mentioned above seem to be just a result of stupidity, immaturity, or the need to get attention that way. It might be annoying, but I don't see how those stupid/wrong statements cannot be just ignored if they become too much for one personally. I consider this forum ALSO to be entertainment and the entertainment factor has been reduced since several of the difficult posters have been banned recently.

I know this is the area for "lighter" conversation, but it does irk me when sexual harassment is belittled like this. If you were sexually harassed, you would NOT look forward to it with great anticipation. If you feel this way it would not be harassment. You make it sound as if the receiver of the harassment has the option to welcome it and the person who harasses has the option to declare it harmless.

Sorry. I don't mean to get all serious about this. It is a serious issue for many though. And this use of language annoys me just as much when child pornography is described as "kiddie porn". Sound cute, but it is not. Call it what it is.

Yes, I do believe I understand satire. But some words and terms carry meaning that should not be watered down. Use different words to crack the same joke.

[::)] I think we all know the defination of harrassment, and some of us do know what it feels like. However I do not bow down to political correctness and if I wish to make a tongue-in-cheek, off the cuff light hearted comment, I will do and phrase it how I wish, providing it doesn't contravene forum rules, which it doesn't. If Ethos wishes to make a light hearted comment back, then he can and I will take it as such.
If you choose to be offended and make an issue out of it then that is entirely your choice.

Comparing an off the cuff comment on my (untrue) thought that I will be banned for flirting with forums members, is in no way comparable to child pornography, or 'kiddie porn'. I do not like that term either, the whole 'kiddie porn' area is not funny, nor are jokes about paedophiles, for me anyway. I understand your point of lanquage, but I do not see the need to preach in a politically correct manner when the original post was as harmless as you can get.

Use different words, the meaning will be the same and presumably the same offence would be felt by you?? Or is your objection really just to the words used and notto the implication? If so then is a bit OTT Karsten. Many people on here would understand your points, but I would be hard pushed to really find that many upset because I used the words "sexual harrassment".
Telling me to use different words is a cheek sheer bloody nerve in my opinion.
Do not preach political correctness to me, you will not find it embraced.

I wished to express the idea that it is OK to joke about very serious matters as long as certain words and their meaning are not belittled by putting them in a context that weakens their meaning and power. This applies to many words and topics. This is not about your or Ethos intentions. I understood what you meant and that your intentions cannot be compared to the intentions of child pornography. This is about the "words" that were used and what that results in.

Sexual harassment is not close to "flirting" and I have a difficult time understanding how anyone can compare the two or think it is amusing to use them as if they are synonyms. I don't know why you don't just write flirting when you mean flirting. That would have made the point and been funny. How about "trifle, toy, play, philander, seduce, dally, lead on, chat up"? Why use the term "sexual harassment" instead? Would it be funny if one writes "rape" but means "having sex with"? They are completely different things and should not be compared if one takes the issue of rape (or sexual harassment) seriously. Unfortunately too many men (especially) seem to think that sexual harassment is just a way of flirting. Why support their thinking with innocent but incorrect use of language? (I know you did not intend this but this can be the result if one does not pay attention to language).

I was not offended personally. I do think though that language use IS AN ISSUE and wanted to point out that in my opinion, some words need to be used as is rather than watering them down and making them more endearing this way. I was once called jokingly a "Hallway Nazi" by a colleague for not letting some kids go down a hallway to see their teachers before class had started (as we had agreed it should be done since the teachers cannot prepare their classes when constantly disrupted). I understood his joke but still decided to talk to this colleague about what sort of person a "nazi" could be and that the term when used to insult (or tease in this case) did not fit the "crime".  It should be reserved for much more significant situations. He understood.

It does not matter to me if you embrace political correctness. I said what I thought should be said.

And it is precisely that kind of pedantic nit-picking that has lead to the paranoid society we live in today. It's the reason I cannot order a black coffee....the reason why Christmas trees have been banned in some big banks... the reason why people are sued for making comments that are taken out of context.

Now you are comparing people who object to the word "black" in context with coffee with people who object to using the term "sexual harassment" with "flirting". You don't see it, do you? Coffee has nothing to do with racism, while sexual harassment is perceived by many as a type of flirting and those people think that if you don't welcome those sort of advances you are just up-tight.

I agree completely that avoiding the term "black coffee" is strange. I have not heard about this issue here and do not know if the use of this term has a history that connects it to racial discrimination. If it does not, use the term and ask what it has to do with racial discrimination if you get called on it.  If it does, oh well, it probably was not the "black" community who used it in a derogatory fashion. I doubt that you will hear any complaints about the term "white chocolate" in Europe or rural New England very soon.

Christmas trees may not be a religious symbol alone but they are a religious symbol and some people just don't celebrate this occasion or may want to display some religious symbols in public places that represent their own beliefs but cannot get permission. Either all get permission, or no one. In private you can celebrate Christmas as you wish. The issue is about public places and public messages. It is a result of other groups than Christians getting more power and influence in formerly mostly Christian societies. Is this really regrettable? Societies change when people from other cultures arrive in large numbers and/or gain power.

For obvious reasons those who have experienced hardship and discrimination would like to see discriminating or damaging language abolished. This is not pedantic nit-picking, this is trying to be sensitive and respectful when communicating with others.

This reminds me of something I heard many years ago:

If you continually think someone is out to get you, it will happen, even if only in your own mind.

You speak for all do you? Or, yet again is it a case of being morally offended by 2 words on someone else's behalf?
There is a time and a place for that sort of moral lecture, that comment of mine (and Ethos) was not it.

Yet again you are missing the point. You objected to the use of 2 words, and Ethos picking up on it. My use of those 2 words does not negate the seriousness of sexual harrassment, nor does it change the very fuzzy line between what is an isn't acceptable in terms of flirting, sexual comments and harrassment. Yet you perist in trying to make out that making an off the cuff comment in obvious jest somehow lessens the impact of sexual harrassment. Ethos is a an adult, I am an adult, we don't need lectures on what is an isn't ok to say on here.
You chose an ill-timed way to make an otherwise well-known and valid point.

A work colleague, a rather feisty Brit, told me of an occassion when she had been working in a secratarial role in Houston. In the elevator one day a company vice-President entered in animated conversation on the subject of sexual harassment. He knew my colleague, so after a moment turned to her and asked "Judy, what do you think of sexual harassment?" She paused for a moment then said, "I'm all for it."

Did this response mean that she treated sexual harassment lightly? Not at all. She would have reacted strongly and promptly had she experienced it. She would have been vocal in condemning it if she saw others subjected to it.

So why did she say what she said? Frankly, I don't know, but what I did know of her suggests two reasons. Firstly, she saw it as too good an opportunity to miss to deliver some shock humour to someone near the top of the organisation.
Secondly, it was an indirect way of saying "There is genuine sexual harassment and then there are casual jokes between acquaintances. I can tell the difference and if someone else can't, maybe they should learn." Uncompromising? Perhaps. But them I wouldn't want to be caught in a compromising position by Variola. [:X]
