For me it has to be the original Tom & Jerry cartoons - the ones produced by Fred Quimby. I didn't like the Gene Deitch episodes (made by Rembrandt films in Prague in the early 1960s), but they came good again when Chuck Jones took over in 1963 - but still not as good as the originals.
-
I always loved Spiderman when I was younger.
One of my favourites was "Es war einmal das Leben" (erm..."Once upon a time ..Life"..or something like that ;-) )... it was a french production an was teaching about reactions inside the body. There were bloodcells walkling through the body, explaining how a hormone cascade works, or the transmitting of information...a pretty intelligent cartoon.
and a wonderful intro:
There were also other cartoons like this:
Once upon a time...space
...humans
...history
...america
...discoverer and scientists
...... and some others I think. But I just loved the life-part
Another favourite, you might know:
The animals of farthing wood... but only the first season was really great...I stopped watching it in the middle of season 2
-
One of my most favourites is a Tom and Gerry one.
Not sure when it was made but think it was a modern one, its the one where they are playing pool.
My son, now 32 thinks it was the best as well.

I always considered Loony Tunes to be masterpieces.
Current cartoon--"Squidbillies". It takes place in North Georgia. I live in North Georgia. It is sublimely funny, but you have to live here to understand all the references.
-
LOL.....Squidbillies is soooo wrong! I live in North Florida, but am in North Georgia frequently, so I do get the referrences. Unfortunately Squidbillies reminds me of a lot of the people in the small town I live in.
-
When I was a kid it was Casper the friendly Ghost and then as I aged I loved foghorn leg horn, Tweety Bird, Duddly Doright and Pennellope Pitstop! LOL MAny of the old ones Tom and Jerry etc Popeye The Sailor man!

-
I do recognize the little characters.. I have seen them with my school kids over the years teaching!
-
I used to watch that all the time.
Gumby was a good movie/show too :)
-
Yes I love Gumby! I am surprised you ever watched it.. way before your time.. Good for you! Gumby and Pokey!
-
There is only one real answer - Loony Toons!
-
JimBob & Loony. Yes, the 2 go together well. [:P]
-
Simpsons every time.
Still like Bugs Bunny though especially with the martian.
-
Roadrunner and Southpark, although I also found the Disney Micky Mouse crew doing the Olympics pretty funny too.
On paper (in graphic novel form, and not because it's funny, because most of it isn't) the Sandman series, by Neil Gaiman.

Neil Gaiman is totally off his trolley!
On paper, I think you have to go a long way to beat Asterix.

Whilst drifting off to sleep pondering the best of the best W.R.T. cartoons, I must add to the Warner Brothers cartoons - Loony Toons, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck (Dr. Beaver in a previous incarnation) the most erudite of all cartoon series, The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rocky_and_Bullwinkle_Show). Not the garbage still in syndication, but the original 1960's version. Way too brilliant for children but it gave the parents something they could enjoy whist spending "quality" time with the brats.
Of the cartoons shown on this show bookended with short clips of the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, were Fractured Fairy Tales as told by Edward Everet Horton, one of the finest Shakespearean actors of his time, Peabody's Improbable Histories, Aesop and Son and my all-time favorite, Dudley Do-Right Of The Mounties. Dudley's horse was smarter than he was but Dudly always won out in the end.
If you haven't seen any of Dudly, start here:

And I think you'll find it's Green Lantern, not Green Man. That's a pub! [:D]

What about the green hornet?
And South Park has to be the best cartoon, by far.
-
South Park is nasty & disgusting. I love it!

Oh lord, this is a 40 year old showing his full nerd here.
Green man could be Green Lantern or The Martian Manhunter.
John could refer to either as well. In the WB Justice League cartoon Green Lantern was John Stewart (not Jon Stewart), and the Martian Manhunter's identity is J'onn J'onzz.
-
HE IS NOT A 40 YEAR OLD NERD.
He is a little older, and a computer programmer-psychologist as well as an entrepreneur!
Have some respect, worm!

Nope he's 40 *point to self* and is a nerd *again, points to self*, and I don't program computers I build bamboo bicycles (http://awcg.com/Allen/Bicycle/X1/Side.jpg).
Just because I like the Braves does not make me a worm, it's not like I'm a Rangers fan or anything.

What's the spike on the front for? Impaling geologists?

What a good idea!
-
Don't park your bamboo bike near a giant panda. [:)]
-
Or a beaver, either. Their pallet is MUCH less discriminating than a pandas.
-
Nah, bamboo isn't nice to eat.
-
I've just had a vision of someone on a bamboo bike being pursued by a herd of giant pandas! [:D]
